Some more reason for optimism

Postby pick6pedro on Tue Mar 01, 2011 10:55 pm

Sure, the team won, but almost as promising is the tremendous amount of bubble teams who don't seem to want to dance. In the last three days alone you're looking at MSU, UMD, Cincy, Illinois, baylor, and bama losing. What a terrible, terrible bubble year.

I still say Saturday makes me nervous. I wont say loss (despite any OJ nonsense) but Wake scares me.

I'm loving the fact that .....FINALLY...... the Don shortened the bench and just played 8 tonite. Limit the rotation to those who can play, and we can win some games. Perfect.

Kudos to Raji and Southern who stepped up tonite.

It's Sunday. And it's at home. You should stop by Conte and see this team in person.

If I am not called for SJC appearance on Tues., I may call little Skywalker to come to senior day. BC deserves it.

BC has now put together its best three halves of basketball all year in a row. they really did a
great job in the second half blowing out virginia and that game last night was near perfect.
great defense, great shooting all around and more importantly great effort across the board.
moton played a great game, raji huge on the glass, jackson setting the tone was very important
also. southern was great, cahill was amazing and we didnt even need trap tonight at all. he did
he a big three and got a timely put back. we arent going to shoot like that every game but the
intensity was there. now lets stay on the roll and get wake this weekend.

After last night, I like our chances. Don may just have this team peaking at the right time.

Look, I know that our teams have a habit of shooting themselves in the foot, but I'm really not worried about Wake. They have only been IN 2 conference games all season, both at home, and against two of the lesser teams in the conference. (Although to be fair one of those teams was Miami, and we couldn't seem to beat them.)

What I'm more concerned about is that we beat Wake, get the 4 seed and a first round bye, and then lose our first tournament game. Then we're sitting at 19-12 without that all-important 20th win. The bubble is so ridiculously soft that we might still get in, given our RPI and SOS, but I'd feel a lot more comfortable with a 20 there than a 19.

Our RPI and SoS is very strong compared to most other bubble teams. 2 more wins gets us in. And a VT win at Clemson would help us tremendously. And if I could get greedy, then lets see A&M beat Kansas tonight.

why does it matter, they're always there

We have to take care of business on Sunday and not do a "Virginia Tech". We always seem to play flat (outside of hockey) against a weaker opponent after a big win. The really good programs always have one common denominator - they always play hard and rarely beat themselves.

Does anyone on the bubble want to get in?

Clemson, Memphis, Colorado, Marquette all losers. Richmond, MSU, and Washington took care of business though. There are going to be somewhere in the realm of 6-12 ugly, ugly resumes in the tournament that wouldn't get there most years.

Well after Saturday, our L10 should be 5-5, and with the tournament coming up we're in good shape whether or not we get the bye. We don't get the bye, we should get at least one more win against an ACC bottom feeder, obviously improving our L10 and record. But if we get the bye, our position in the ACC standings looks pretty good to the committee. The statement was sort of obvious, so I'm not sure if I should be ending it with "that's the way I see it."

But anyways, which would you rather have?

Wake doesn't have "lots of young talent". Youth isn't the reason they continue to get blasted night after night in the ACC. This should be a 20 point win going away unless BC comes out flat as all hell on Senior Day.

Fairly certain the chance at a bye collapsed with UMD's loss, so I'll take the 5. I think if I can take anything away from my overview, it's that even though the win-loss record doesn't distinguish them, BC is in good shape relative to other teams on the bubble and that shouldn't change even with 2 games against a team with a 246 RPI.

Also note that of the 21 - 8 have games left against each other, 7 have what I would call easy wins, 2 have medium-level opponents, and 2 have a difficult game (all before the conference tourneys of course). And 2 have completed their regular season.

They've won 1 ACC game. Give me a break. I really don't care how many ESPNU Top 100 kids they have. They just lost by 30 at Georgia Tech who isn't exactly loaded last time I checked (GT is also coached by an absolutely basketball novice). Stop looking for reasons we're going to lose this game. The only way we lose is if BC just plays terrible (see games versus Yale and Harvard). Short of that, this Wake team is absolutely horrible and will be sent home with a 20 point drubbing.
