I think Kelly/Owens are okay, but we're not getting to the top of the ACC with those type of commitments.

Do you have the thing that that guy in memento had?

tattoos?

 antergorade amnesia (short term memory loss) - you know you are suffering from it when you actually entertain the thought that one of these talented underclassmen Donahue offers early to is actually going to commit to BC once the major offers start rolling in.

BCEagles25 {l Wrote}:I'm extremely impressed by last year's recruiting class. Rahon and Hanlan = 2 for 2. If the staff can keep finding guys of their caliber who are harshly under-recruited but bring the goods once they get to the next level, then I'd rather have this coaching staff than any. I like Rahon and Hanlan so much because they are talented, smart, and are four-year players, unless buzz surrounds Hanlan and he leaves after junior year. Two more players of their caliber for this year's class and we're a possible Sweet Sixteen team next year. maybe even better. I have high aspirations, and this coaching staff's ability to find those two gems is hopefully a precursor to later finds.

Hanlan and Rahon both had a lot of high major offers. So does Jorgensen

NERR reports that Duke has begun to show interest in Kaleb Joseph; no offer at present, but this is not good news.

The fact that people still think these highly recruited kids are still coming to BC is a joke.

He has a Syracuse offer, that should have ended it anyway

Joseph may be about to become another Vonleh case, but if we can't compete for blue-chip recruits in our own back yard at some point, then why should BC even bother to put a team on the court? Competing at a disadvantage is to some extent inevitable, but resigning oneself to permanent futility reduces the whole thing to a waste of time (other than perhaps as a fundraising tool).

Henderson (6'4", 175 lbs.) already had offers from at least the following (per Rivals): Columbia, Florida State, Mississippi State, Purdue, Seton Hall, St. Joseph's, and Stanford. Obviously, he's got both game and good academics; you don't see an offer list stretching from Columbia and Stanford to Mississippi State very often. He'd presumably be a good get, but I don't see Donahue having much luck in the middle of that mob (which includes two home-state schools), especially since he's arriving with the second (or maybe even the third) wave of offers.

BC showing interest in 2013 PF Matthew Atewe of Notre Dame Prep. Rebounder-shot blocker type. 3 star on rivals.

Offers from Auburn, Dayton, Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Marquette, Nebraska, Nevada and St. Bonnaventure. A lot of those offers are pretty good.

I'm sure redbaron knows more than me on him, but he seems to a guy who's blowing up on the recruiting scene.

Actually, all I know about players is what I learn from Google (which I highly recommend).

I don't know if Atewe is exactly blowing up, but he's certainly become popular; one recent newspaper article reported that he now has more than 30 offers. He visited Nebraska a few weeks ago, had a good time, and declared them #1 on his list -- but he said the same thing after visiting Kansas State in September, so he's definitely open to persuasion. Atewe is a Canadian (from Toronto), so maybe our Canadian specialist has jumped in on him. I always have doubts about getting into a recruiting mob scene, especially this late in the game, but at least he's close by. Atewe (6'9", 230 lbs.) looks like he would go a long way to help our size problem; what I wonder is whether they're looking at him as an alternative or as an addition to Kelly. If Atewe is a potential third recruit in 2013, Donahue may be confident about a slot opening up through transfer (perhaps Caudill?). All this assumes, of course, that we have some kind of genuine shot to land Atewe, but presumably Donahue & Co. think we do.

He would be perfect along with Owens and Jorgensen. For that reason exactly Im sure we won't land him.

according to EA posters including two that almost always know what they are talking about, ND prep is like Milford Academy in that BC admissions don't consider it to be a school. Whereby, unless his pre prep school grades were in order, he can't be touched. I don't know if this is true or not.

I question what took us so long to offer.

My hope is that the possible offer has absolutely nothing to do with anyone else (e.g. Kelly in RedBaron's post). I see absolutely no reason why BC cannot recruit Kanter, Kelly, Jorgenson, Reynolds AND Atewe. We would be so lucky to have the "problem" of deciding what to do if more than 2 wanted to come-aboard.

The problem for Donahue is kids like Owens, Kelly, etc. are going to be projects offensively. He doesn't have the luxury of that. We need instant impact players for next year.

But that problem is mitigated by what is needed. He doesn't really need more scorers, he needs productive bodies. He needs guys that can rebound, defend and not be liabilities when they are on the floor. Your boy Dragevich should help on the offensive side a bit, Jorgensen too, but guys like Owens and Kelly would in the short term be more about in Owens case providing an athletic defender and rebounder and for a Kelly like player spelling Clifford effectively without forcing Anderson to the 5 or at least without forcing Anderson to be the only player on the court on our side over 200 lbs. That is instant impact even though its not instant scoring.

I have no idea, but we certainly have this issue with football a few times each recruiting season. Right now, Silas Spearman is an example.

This. He needs a backup guard and a big man, stat. He already got his athletic swingman that could be a lock up defender at the 2/3

I'm with you guys. We need athletic bodies. We have some skill guys but we just need guys that get after it. Athleticism can definitely help make up for deficiencies that Donahue can coach up.

Get Jorgenson and one of the big bodies and I'll be very happy with this class.

Frankly, I'd take a Jermaine Watson and a Courtney Dunn on this team and you would see marked improvement immediately.

Ha, I was considering saying almost the exact same thing in another post. I don't know if Dunn is quite enough though, I think I cut off at Tyrelle Blair or better.

Yes, and he would immediately be the best post defender and rebounder on this team. And tougher than the rest of the team put together. Point is, BC doesn't need a starter, they would be a markedly better team with Courtney Dunn.

Trying to assemble the best 5-7 guys is why the NBA and college basketball (to a lesser extent) has become unbearably god awful. Wake me the next time a coach tries to assemble the best team, it will be the first time in a decade.

I think we can now formally declare that Joseph is blowing up. It was inevitable once he broke into the national rankings. We are now in a recruiting contest (again); I'm not about to give up just yet, but I can't say I'm glowing with optimism.

Donahue would never ever, ever recruit a kid like courtney Dunn after watching the way he plays. the forst time he watched him miss the rim from 5 feet out, and shoot bricks at the the free throw line, he would have walked out the door. The problem is that BC needs a big, and this big doesnt necesaarily have to be an offensive weapon.

And therein lies my comment about recruiting 5-7 good players instead of recruiting a good team. Don won't take a kid that can't handle or shoot. Problem is that 6'9'' strong power forwards with rebounding instincts that can handle and rebound are about 7 every class and they go to UNC, Kansas and Kentucky. A good coach would recognize that he can't improve interior defense and rebounding without sacrificing a little offense.

Donahue wouldn't have recruited *** *******, either. It's a problem

Nothing about this shocks me.

Oh and Courtney Dunn was freaking awful. Donahue has a big in Van Nest who is mobile and can shoot, he just declines to play him big minutes. For all of Van Nest's faults, he's no worse than Southern or Dunn.
