Grizzlies GM Chris Wallace --GM of Decade!

Postby BCEagle74 on Thu May 20, 2010 6:05 am

This is the moron who traded Pao Gasol to the Lakers for squat and built a dynasty.

Hershel Walker....to Vikings...

The Los Angeles Lakers have acquired forward Pau Gasol in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies, it was announced today by General Manager Mitch Kupchak. The Lakers will also receive the Grizzlies second round draft choice in 2010. In exchange Memphis will receive forward Kwame Brown, guard Javaris Crittenton, guard Aaron McKie (who the Lakers signed earlier today), the draft rights to Marc Gasol and first round picks in 2008 and 2010.

Gasol, a 7th year player out of Spain, is averaging 18.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.44 blocked shots per game this season. The 27 year old 7’0” forward/center has career averages of 18.8 points and 8.6 rebounds. A 2006 NBA All-Star and 2001-02 NBA Rookie of the Year, Gasol also won a gold medal with Spain at the 2006 FIBA World Championships while being named tournament MVP.

That trade is going to generate at least 3 NBA Finals appearances for LA when they otherwise wouldn't have gone.

Mitch Kupchak, the Dynasty Maker, was no where to be found when Magic was given the trophy as a consultant and all over the ABC lot.

Poor Kup.

Mitch Kupchak got handed the best big man in the league on a silver platter. Most fortunate trade ever.

The Lakers historically have been the most fortunate (read: lucky) team in the NBA over the last 40 years or so. You can go all the way back to the deal for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as a starting point, look at the trade that allowed them to draft Magic Johnson, the trade that allowed them to draft Kobe Bryant (Vlade Divac? Seriously?), the free agent signing of Shaq, and most recently the absurd deal that landed them Pau Gasol.

Mercifully, I think they're in for some down time in the not too distant future. That deal that Kobe signed is insanity and will cripple them at the end of it. Gasol is over 30 now as well. Once Kobe retires, they'll have the rebuild through the draft, which takes time.
Is this the 5 o'clock free crack giveaway?

Anyone have a source of the cap space for each team?

When you have...

Garnett: $18.8M in 2010/11 and $21.2M in 2011/12
Pierce: $21.5M in 2010/11
Rondo: $9M in 2010/11 and $1M increments for the next 5 years
Perk: $4.4M in 2010/11

...there is not much room under the cap ($57M) for free agents. Those four alone account for $54M and don't include Rasheed who is owed $6.5M in the next couple of years.

If Pierce opts out or Garnett is traded, then we start exploring possibilities.

Thanks. PubarMaster.

Justin and TRE have my cap at $11.50 for next year and one free Pasha Buffet ticket, but I can opt out.

I may try free agency and and a global buffet ticket.

Rumors are Danny Ainge wants to stick with what he has and add a SG to supplement or replace Allen. Pierce may be granted his "Celtics lifer" wish.

As far as the draft goes, we are looking for big men. Perk's situation is interesting in that his contract runs out next year and it is unclear how early and how effective he will return from this injury. This may, to some extent, impact how much they offer to resign him. In the short term though, Daniel Orton (Kentucky), Solomon Alabi (Florida State) and Larry Sanders (VCU) are among those likely to end up being our first pick.

Unfortunaly Damarcus Cousins (Kentucky) and Greg Monroe (Georgetown) will not be around come Celtics First Round Pick time.

74: HGAW = Humble Genius at Work.

Unreal.

Then again, when a guy wants out, WTF can you do?

Ya never know...maybe that was the best deal he could get?

Gasol was with Grizz for like 6-7 years and Memphis sucks.

Updated: June 20, 2010, 12:40 PM ETGrizz GM Wallace agrees to new deal

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace has agreed to a multiyear contract extension.

Team spokesman Dustin Krugel told The Associated Press on Sunday that Wallace had agreed to the deal. Terms weren't immediately available.

The move gives the team some continuity among its leadership. Head coach Lionel Hollins signed a three-year contract with the team in April.

Wallace, also the team's vice president of operations, was present at the team's predraft workout Sunday. Among the six players auditioning for the Grizzlies were Kentucky forward Patrick Patterson and West Virginia forward Devin Ebanks.

The Grizzlies have the 12th, 25th and 28th picks in the first round of Thursday's draft.

Wallace has worked as a scout, director of player personnel and general manager for seven teams. He was the Boston Celtics' general manager before he was hired by the Grizzlies in 2007.

Wallace has been involved in three of the team's most pivotal transactions. He was the GM when the Grizzlies traded forward Pau Gasol to the Lakers -- where he has become a two-time NBA champion -- for a package that included the draft rights to Gasol's brother, Marc Gasol.

He engineered the draft-day deal that brought guard O.J. Mayo to Memphis in 2008. And, in July 2009, he traded journeyman Quentin Richardson to Portland for forward Zach Randolph, who led the team in scoring and rebounding last year and made the All-Star team.

Last season, the once-woeful Grizzlies were part of the playoff picture before folding down the stretch, falling just short of their first .500 season since 2006.
