Gene approval poll

Postby BCEagles25 on Sun Apr 11, 2010 10:23 pm

Discuss. Or not.

My opinion of Gene has improved. I didn't like his handling with the Jags debacle, but I respected that he wanted a long-term coach at BC who liked the school and actually wanted to be there. I was very surprised that Gene didn't meddle in Stevie D's picking of assistants, which lead to an outstanding hire in Joe Jones. I liked his pick for coach, and I didn't mind the search. I'm impressed with the way he handled this after looking like an asshole for canning Ol' Handsome. I like BC basketball.
I like BC basketball.

Hard to go with anything other than "improved." He really didn't have anywhere to go but up.

I'm still not convinced he (and we) didn't just get lucky with this hiring, but that's still an improvement over my prior opinion of GDF.

Improved. I like Donahue, so Gene made a solid move.

That was the same photo used in a piece about Gene, also by Shaughnessy. http://www.boston.com/sports/colleges/mens_hockey/articles/2010/04/11/bcs_ad_is_a_man_for_all_seasons/

It contains this line, sure to anger many: The Skinner-Donahue swap came just 15 months after the chaotic departure of con man Jeff Jagodzinski as football coach.

I say a combination of all the above…GDF is still a shitty greasy bastard. On paper I say we have the potential to improve, but on time will tell if we really have. With the way things were going with Al, I say we’ve improved slightly because it has allowed fresh air and a new buzz to come into the program. The negative side of things is the fact that we have a new coach, but the same players.

Apparently, Jerry approves.....

He said, “I have a great relationship with Gene [DeFilippo] and we are going to come to an agreement over the next couple of months that will be very beneficial to the Yorks and to BC in general.”
