Pick a date the new coach is hired. Winner gets nothing.

4/7. Gene will want it done before the Frozen Four. There is no stealth candidate. Gene just has to decide who kissed the ring the best. Although he was the long shot in the process, Cooley is off to a good start. He's rah rah and "listening to input from the AD" on staff.

O great, that's all we need is our AD picking the assistant coaches. Does GDF get to set the starting lineup also? :whiteflag

Interesting. And I was about to stop worrying about this until later next week. Oh well.

If it's Pearl, it will be on F4 Saturday. GDF would milk the splash for all he can - and he should if BC flexes this kind of muscle.

Cooley was not hired yesterday, but the close observers of the process feel like the fix is in and we will have a cheap, passionate, loyal, grateful head coach whom everyone in the building loves by next week. Maybe Donahue and Mooney have a legit shot but the Duquette gossip that popped up today makes me think they will have a predictable ending. If you have a good thing at a midmajor and you are interviewing with an AD who just bounced his winningest coach, and said AD asks you about current BC staff, wouldn't that send a chill down your spine?

So basically Gene is going to do what we all thought he'd do. Hope Cooley can rise to the occasion.

Eagledom/OJ is not going to be happy if Cooley ends up being the next head coach.

I'm missing something (certainly not the first time). I missed the "Duquette gossip," but wouldn't part of the interview process always involve some discussion of current assistants (unless they'd all been fired already) and who the new head coaching prospect might have in mind to keep or retain, and then who he might want to bring in to replace any assistants he did not want?

Sure, it should be part of the conversation. I am not in the room so I don't know how it plays out but the impression shared (going back to the Jags days) is that GDF makes it pretty clear how he sees the staff and it can be a deal breaker. GDF is not a hoops guy so I don't know if he will be as insistent about Duquette.

I'm still not sure where this Duq rumor is coming from. Why would he insist on Duq when Duq is an apparently front-runner for a head-coaching job in Worcester?

Isn't it established that Duke is NOT a front-runner for the HC job since he does not have HC experience which is a pre-req? :ace

I know... where the eff is this Duke to Holy Cross thing coming from??? Probably the same place as the "Trust GDF... he will make a great hire."

Regan said he went against his better judgment when he hired Kearney. He wanted a coach with head-coaching experience. So that's the direction he's going to go this time, he said.

They interviewed him a year ago. Why go through the trouble of interviewing him again if he isn't a serious candidate?
