Bob Ryan on PTI

Bob Ryan just came out completely in favor of BC on PTI. He said that things haven't been the same since Coen left, Al was inflexible, and it was time for him to go.

I was surprised that he also said BC wasn't any worse off due to the ACC move. I recall that he wasn't too supportive when it happened.

I think Ryan is firmly in the Coen camp, so he's not going to make an public pleas for Bruce Pearl.

Ryan is an old fart who likes things they way they were in the 80s when it was the real Big East and we played Holy Cross. I bet he looks at the "now" and doesn't see the same thing with USF, Depaul etc. He just gets misty eyed for the way it was.

And he's the one media personality besides Katz that actually pays attention to BC. He only covers them when they play Duke or UNC or are really good, but he's watching.

I don't think I have seen Bob Ryan that positive about BC basketball while discussing the impact of leaving the BE since...well..never.

Yeah neither have I.

Kornheiser, who I like, tried to play the typical ESPN media of BC leaving the BE and not being able to recruit locally. Ryan responds that they have never been able to recruit locally and they aren't really able to recruit post-Cohen.

We need to make a decision relatively soon so the new coach can go reassure Reggie Jackson and hit the recruiting trail for 2011. I'm not advocating rushing a decision.

I got more out of Kornheiser than I expected. I'm surprised -- no, shocked that he didn't think "BC basketball" was a form of basketball played by the ancient Romans.
