Al's Replacement

Postby BCFAN94 on Wed Mar 24, 2010 11:15 am

It looks like McCaffery will probably be unavailable because he is being considered by Seton Hall and St. Johns. He's crazy if he doesn't jump this year, he has no talent left for next year.

On another note, How the hell is it that St. Johns can offer Donovan $3M per year and also go after Hewitt when apparently BC can not get a good coach because of money? St. Johns has no revenue sports other than basketball but they can pay a coach $3 mil? Another question, why would any up and coming coach take a Big East job with the future of the conference in question?

To your first point, the guys I'd look like are up-and-comers such as McCaffrey, Brian Gregory, Bill Coen (who falls in a different category), etc. I want someone who will be hungry.

To your second point, I think you missed the point of the report. Apparently the report had no legs because it was a booster offering the $, not SJU.

I'd be less concerned with the Big east breaking up than with taking over a crappy program knowing that you have to play 10-15 games against tournament teams every year in conference. It's going to take a miracle worker to get either St John's or Seton Hall back to prominence.

not really at SJU, they are going to be solid next year and a lot of people in the ny area want them to suceed.
plus they play in the best conference and have the garden as a recruiting tool.
roberts did a great job turning around the jarvis mess, dont think they are that far off at all
one real solid recruit from nyc will turn this team into something special.

how about donahue from cornell as a replacement for al?
probably not, i think he is going to go somewhere when the tourney is over

Big East is the best conference ool!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!11

One year over .500 (16-15), overall 88-169, and finished in 13th, 13th, 11th, 14th, and 13th. Yes, GREAT job. They're something special alright.

It's puff, puff, give man - you're fuckin' up the rotation.

they will probably have a better record than us next year and they had a better record
than us this year. both teams have a lot of seniors, who didnt like up to expectations
as juniors.

im a die hard bc fan and went there also, just not blind to the fact that the big east
is a better basketball conference. if sju can get a donahue or a greenberg they are
going to be pretty good next year. it takes a while to turn around a team that was
beaten into the ground like that. watch out for them next year

First off having a better record than BC these days does not mean a team does not still stink and St. John's is still not going to be that great next year.

Aside from that I am tired of this blanket statement everyone makes that the Big East is the best basketball conference. If you look at just teams 1-8 sure they are the best, but last time I checked they are a ridiculous 16 team mega conference and everyone seems to conveniently ignore the soft underbelly of that conference.

The top teams in the Big east are as good as or better than any conference, but the bottom is awful and the middle is way overrated because they load up on wins over St. Johns, Depaul, Rutgers and Providence. 8 teams (ie 50%) of the BE made the tourney this year. 7 teams from the Big 12 and 7 teams from the ACC (58%) made the tourney this year. This was a down year for the ACC and we still had a higher percentage of teams in. With the way the BE performed the first weekend of the tourney, especially considering the advantage they had from the high seeding, they should be embarrased and maybe if they didn't have so many nights off in conference playing the shit teams at the bottom they would have been better prepared.

Look - between statements like "Roberts did a GREAT job", "SJU is one player away from being special" and thinking Seth Greenberg would be a savior for SJU's program, your credibility is pretty much shot. Just find an angry anti-semite office shooter and stand in front of him.

Go easy on cremins. He's had a really tough go at it since the Big East Conference stopped answering his phone calls.

Have any of you guys been calling into WFAN sports radio in NY today? They are spending time discussing the St. John's open coaching position and several callers have brought up Skinner as a suggestion. Ths is way too coincidental. :P

That best conference Big Least continues to impress this tourney. #1 seed Cuse goes down and the WVU/Wash game was as ugly as they come. Over 20 turnovers each...ouch
