Roche: Because he's the only senior

Biko: Because he is the real captain

I think it shows a lot that Biko was chosen as captain...He's got the confidence of his teammates....Hopefully it translates on the court...If Biko plays well were going to be really good..

Agree on Biko ... but I'd probably say that Josh has to be really good for us to be really good.

I like everything about our team except interior post defense.

Biko is the key to the season. I think he is a perfect tight flex PG, a pass first, confident ball handler.

Biko reminds me of Hinnant...with the difference that Biko can go off for 20 on any given night

Let me be the first to say two things:

1. That was the greatest ACC Championship game ever. Period.

2. This year's team will be better than that year's team.

Haha. I forgot about the announcer's reaction to Hinnant throwing down that dunk. Basically the same reaction every BC fan had. Never knew he had it in him.

Another two things:

The announcers were just shocked BC was that good.

BC ran Maryland that year.

That was just a sick team. Smith, Williams, Dudley, Rice, Hinant, Marshall. Wow. We were everyone's "darkhorse" for the Final 4 that year.

I like the optimism but that's crazy talk. That said, that other team under-achieved big time.

The 2005-2006 BC team was the best team we'll ever field. It had 3 NBA players and at least 3 guys who are playing in pretty competitive leagues in Europe. If you meant that this year's BC team will advance further than the Sweet 16, well, that's possible although unlikely.

This team will be better. Mark it. And the best NBA player of all of them is currently on the team.

I'm going to go ahead and respectfully disagree. And I mean STRONGLY disagree. This year's team can't even hold a candle to the 2005-2006 team from a talent perspective. There's no way Rakim outproduces Dudley and Smith in the NBA. Like 0%. He's 6'5 and can't dribble. He's a nice college player but he's not NBA calibre. Not even close yet.

We will see about that. Rakim has a lot more NBA potential than Smith or Dudley.

Rakim Sanders has more pro potential than Craig Smith, Jared Dudley and :seanwilliams combined. The first two were the prototypical "college players" each of which is carving out a pro career as an 8th man, undersized and underathletic at his position, :seanwilliams is just a douche. Rakim will have a much better career than any of them by 10 fold. I just hope that now that the gratuitous ball hog is gone, he doesn't blow up so much this year that he leaves early.

And that team had little to no guard play, which is why it never succeeded in the tourney. Hinnant was a caretaker, and Marshall sucked. Reggie Jackson is a star in the making, and Biko Paris is certainly as talented as Hinnant.

The only difference that makes the other team better is the interior post play and defense, which is utterly wasted in Al's scheme and, with a quarter, might get you to the Sweet 16. Backcourts like Paris/Jackson/Sanders are what get you to the show.

Explain why. I like Rakim but he's a 6'5 wing who can't dribble. Not a good enough handle to be a 2 and too small to be a 3. I could see him making it as a bench player based on his other skills and athleticism but that's it. Saying that Sanders has more pro potential than Dudley and Smith is basically saying that you think Sanders will eventually be an NBA starter. And I must say that's an absolute longshot.

Rakim Sanders will be on the Naismith watchlist this season, and a finalist next season. Dudley couldn't shoot, dribble or defend as a sophomore and improved, but you don't think Rakim Sanders will get any better? Jesus, are you OJ? If Rakim simply progresses as much as he did last off season (which by all accounts has occurred) and gets to touch the rock once in a while now that he has a PG instead of a fucking pop a shot master, he will be in the running for ACC POY.

Rakim Sanders is a 6'6'' shooting guard who needs to work on a couple of skills, just like Dudley had to. But he is an NBA athlete. Dudley is a CYO athlete.

And you need to recheck Dudley's contributions statistically. Rakim may only need to dress to be better than Dudley in the pros.

There are so many things that are wrong with this post that I don't know where to begin. But I'll start:

1) I'm not OJ just because I'm not as bullish on Rakim's pro potential as you are. So go fuck yourself for that.

2) Jared Dudley, when he got minutes at the end of last year, was putting up double digit scoring performances pretty consistently. You're the one who needs to check your facts. And I guarantee you that I watch more of his games than you do, unless you, too, have the NBA package. Craig Smith was also producing a lot when given the minutes.

3) Conference accolades don't mean shit when it comes to pro potential. Smith and Dudley did all that. So did JJ Redick. And Adam Morrison. Oh yeah, Rakim is really, really athletic so he's going to be a star...nice analysis.

4) I never said Rakim wouldn't improve so nice try at creating a strawman argument.

5) We haven't even gotten to Craig Smith, who averaged 10ppg last year in about 20 min. Again, I'll say that if you think that Rakim is going to make more of an impact in the pros, then you must think that he's going to be a starter.

In the end, Rakim has never even been the #1 option on a team and you're already claiming that he'll be better in the pros than 2 guys who've already made a solid impact. That's quite the leap. And I won't even get into your moronic claim that this year's team will be better than the 2005-2006 version.

Not to speak for Teddy but you may have misunderstood his comments about Dudley's and Smith's pro career to date. No one is denying that they might be puttting up some stats but that is done with a hell of a lot more grit than pure basketball ability. I watch those two guys as much as I can and they look outmatched in the NBA but they are smart ballplayers and can make up for a lot of that. Rakim has that pure talent like :seanwilliams but it appears that he's got more common sense. I think Sanders will be pretty darn good and be the go-to guy this year.

Smith and Dudley are definitely not "outmatched" on the offensive end. Of course, their physical limitations make them average or below-average defenders at the NBA level but, offensively, they're fine. I really hope I'm wrong and that Sanders absolutely blows up this year and next but he has a long way to go before he even reaches Smith and Dudley's college performance, let alone NBA performance. As it stands right now, Sanders is a 6'5/6'6 guard who has a way below average ball handling skillset (by NBA standards), which is incredibly important in the NBA unless you're lights out from the perimeter, which Sanders isn't (note: that doesn't mean that I think he sucks at shooting).

In college, it's not that big of a deal because he can play the SF position. In the NBA, he wouldn't be able to. In my opinion, Sanders' NBA potential is directly tied to how well he improves his ball handling because I agree that the other pieces are there. He has also faced very little double teams to-date, which is something that Smith and Dudley faced routinely their last 2 years in college. We'll see how he deals with it.

So he has two years to improve his ballhandling... sounds do-able. If he does that, he becomes the complete package at the the sg position. Something that Dudley and Smith can't be at their respective positions. He has more potential.

We're not debating potential. I agree that Sanders has more due to his size and athleticism. We're talking actual NBA production. And it's not like he has to just add a crossover, et voila, he's a lottery pick. It's not that simple.

Rakim Sanders is one of those guys that will be a better pro than college player. There are a lot of them. Believe me when I tell you that pro scouts are drooling over his potential.

I actually think Sanders will not come close to Dudley or Smith's career numbers in college, but will easily surpass them on the next level if he wants to. Like :seanwilliams all he really needs to do is want to.

None of this is meant to be a bash on Dudley or Smith. Great college players (two of the top 7-8 ever at BC). Marginal pros at best.

If we are not debating potential then you are assuming he won't improve the ball handling. I was debating potential - I assume that all athletes that want to make the pros work on their weakness.

Don't get me wrong I love Dudley and Smith(named my dog Dudley), I just think Sanders will end up being a better NBA player.
