ACC Power Rankings

Postby ChipsAndSalsa on Wed Jan 27, 2010 12:29 pm

1. Duke -- I'd be stunned if they didn't win the ACC. Obviously the most complete team.
2. Maryland -- Playing the best ball out of anyone right now. Big road test @ Clemson and @ FSU.
3. Georgia Tech -- If Hewitt wasn't such a crappy coach, this team could win the ACC.
4. Wake Forest -- Big test @ GT this weekend.
5. Florida State -- Inconsistent team that can beat anyone
6. Virginia -- Fluky start, but still will finish with 6-8 ACC wins
7. Clemson -- Annual dive beginning a little early this year
8. UNC -- Could climb back to the top with Davis getting healthy
9. Virginia Tech -- Haven't beaten anyone yet (Should have lost at home to BC)
10. Boston College -- In the cellar a week ago and now on the rise. Team finally wants to win.
11. North Carolina State -- Crawling back into the gutter.
12. Miami -- Blowout loss last night and now 1-5.

With Ed Davis back, UNC will be hard to beat the rest of the way.

FWIW UNC's schedule the rest of the way:

1/31 UVA W
2/04 @ VT W
2/07 @ MD L
2/10 DUKE L
2/13 NCST W
2/16 @ GT L
2/20 @ BC W
2/24 FSU W
2/27 @ WAKE L
3/02 MIA W
3/06 @ DUKE L

That has them at 8-8. I think they could certainly lose to BC or VT on the road as well, but I had to throw them a few bones.

I don't think you're giving UNC enough credit. With Davis back they are a different team (the same team that embarassed MSU @ MSU, and outplayed Kentucky for 59 minutes @ Kentucky).

They won't lose to Duke twice, nor will they lose to Maryland.

Pretty reasonable evaluation for the present, but probably will be significantly different by the end of the regular season. Other than Duke on top, have no real idea as to how it will play out by the beginning of March.
