Clemson

Postby claver2010 on Mon Jan 25, 2010 10:51 am

Considering we have a game tomorrow might as well start it. I have never experienced as much negative energy surrounding a BC program in my four years there is absolutely zero buzz the team and the only news is negative. It'll be interesting the see the crowd for this one.

We played Clemson a couple of weeks ago (admittedly I did not watch the game) and lost 72-56. We all know what Clemson does, they will press for forty minutes and try to out athleticize (that isn't a word I know) us on offense. Will we actually see a play to break the press besides throwing it to a PG in the corner?

Clemson has been a team we don't matchup well against and never have we are 2-4 since entering the ACC against them.

Maybe they shock me but I don't feel good about this one

If memory serves, we did actually see a quality press break in the first Clemson game. Not only did we inbound better, but we had multiple options on the wings and deep, but the dribbling was kept to a minimum. As long as this press break remains effective, the focus becomes not simply settling for outside shots and on defense keeping their big men in check.

Despite all the negative energy (with good reason), there are things to be optimistic about. I predicted if the team lost to Clemson, Duke and UMD that they would completely shut it down. That has not been the case and thank God for that. The effort even appears to have gotten better. Over the last couple games they've looked like they care about the outcome of games and guys look like they want to be the one to shoot. Both of these things were not happening even just a couple games ago. There is still a lot to be concerned about, but I am no longer of the mindframe that this team will definitely compete for 12th place.

I believe their PG, Stitt, is out of action tomorrow night. That should help. Someone still needs to guard Booker though :bag

We're going to get waxed by 30 or so I'd imagine. Clemson is an awful match-up, but with a team who can't make shots or play defense, really any ACC team isn't going to be a good match-up.

remember we are good for upwards of 10 shot clock violations....so that's a lot of time chewed off the clock. It will be hard for Clemson to blow us out by more than 30 with all that time we eat up running "the flex".

The only outcome that would surprise me is a BC blowout. BC could (1) win a close game, (2) lose a close game, or (3) get their asses handed to them. I'm leaning towards option 2...call it optimism I guess.

Let me explain:

(1) Run the flex
(2) Telegraph every pass at the top of the key
(3) Clemson steals a bunch of said passes and since we have 5 guys below the free throw line (most retarded offense ever), Clemson gets numerous highlight reel dunks.

Honestly, who designs an offense to have 5 players below the free throw line? That puts you in a real great defensive position off a missed shot or turnover. Part of the problem with getting back on defense is lack of hustle, the other part is Skinner's retarded offense giving an already slow team no chance to get back.

Secondly on the flex, if Rakim Sanders wants to drive to the basket, that's fine but don't drive into the middle of the floor where we have a clusterfuck of players and you can't help but turn the ball over. We need to isolate Rakim on the wing (NBA style) and see if that works better. One thing is for sure, if we have the entire team standing around the paint, you can't dribble-drive directly into the middle, because that certainly will result in a TO.

@Auggie: I don't think BC will win (m)any close games this year because close games are decided by coaching and having a go to guy, neither of which BC has this year.

The Clemson game two weeks ago could be best summarized by this:

1. No effort
2. Missed layups
3. Horrible three point shooting

That can all be fixed... so we'll see.

And on Wednesday I will have to hear all about it at an ACC Alumni event in NYC. I think its kind of cool that there's an ACC Alumni organization.

What's important is that we win against FSU on Saturday because I will be at that game.
