FIRE AL AFTER THE ACC TOURNEY! Your Opinions Appreciated!

Postby BCEagle74 on Mon Jan 11, 2010 12:42 pm

In all seriousness, when a Head Coach loses a team it is very difficult to get them back, and worse the next year since once lost, it takes a few recruiting years to flush out the malcontents or the just plain discouraged.

BC new recruits are watching the situation and hopefully will stay, but to what end?

It is a complex delicate psychological and athletic balance between maybe the kids are not enamored with the stupid flex or Al's Coaching Style, or the the flex doesn't fit their style--- and when they are disinterested, ergo they stop hustling and playing defense, and they lose that inner intensity and drive to excel.

There is a fine line between losing a team and failure to motivate a team.

You can't motivate hustle, desire, intensity, rebounding is nothing by WANT-TO, boxing out or team spirit--IF!!--there is an real dislike for the Head Coach's style or system.

If the team doesn't want to do all these things, then they are sending Al Skinner a message about his coaching and his poor in game management skills, and Al isn't gonna be "flexible" and change. No Way!

Maybe the rigid flex, ---(I love that oxymoron)-- is a bigger problem than we though?

Last year we have 4 guys watching Rice dribble, turnover, chuck, drive and lose the ball or foul and now we have guys who never learned the flex system since last year was a washout and now have no interest in Al or a failed system?

The 74 suggestion about a new trapping, pressing and running style should be implemented...BUT...then again Southern and Dunn are poor, poor post players and it would take others to crash the glass while the other 2 or 3 were breaking up the floor. Maybe a change ignites the intensity to box out and rebound and run and it works and fits their playing style?

To me with Al sad recruiting issues in the past few years and style, Al Skinner needs to be fired in March. I see no turn around with this under talented and lazy on defense bunch. Your defense and in you grille coverage sets up easy hoops, the crown gets rolling and lifts a team.

Maybe Al is just tired as he looks and its time for a rejuvenation change?

This team is now "El Conte De La Ole Matador Casa!"

No way this team makes the NCAA and wins at least 2 games so I say BC should fire him immediately

Maybe this next story will help Poor AL Skinner.

Say thank you for my presence and humble, humble genius!!

Fuck the retractable dome, build a Loop 128 Atom Smasher and create a black hole over Alumni and Conte and when the other teams show up, turn on that beetch, and swallow the othe team whole.

AL Skinner Atom Smasher Exposes Hole in BC's Defenses:

Jan. 11 (Bloomberg) -- The largest machine in the history of the world has gradually begun to operate in a small town outside Geneva. The policy questions that the endeavor raises are bigger than the machine.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is the most ambitious physics experiment ever. Buried in deep underground tunnels and covering a loop of about 16.5 miles, it consumes about the same amount of energy as a large city.

The LHC will explore the most important unresolved questions in physics. In particular, it could provide evidence of the existence of the Higgs boson, a hypothesized particle that has become known as the God particle. If it is found to exist, it could complete our understanding of the basic laws of the universe.

Accelerators such as the LHC work by bashing energetic beams of particles together, then studying the detritus. The high-energy LHC is like a telescope with an extra-powerful lens. It will allow scientists to see things they have never seen before, because its energy is about seven times greater than that of the most powerful accelerator to date.

That high energy has caused significant controversy. Some have warned that the collider’s energy could induce a catastrophic event. A brilliant review of the risks associated with the experiment by University of North Dakota law professor Eric Johnson has made me think twice about an experiment I have always favored.

There are many things that theoretically could go terribly wrong, some of them quite exotic. The chief threat is that the LHC’s high-energy collisions might create a microscopic black hole that would, perhaps over a few years, swallow the Earth.

And hire which one: Coen, O'Shea, Duquette, Cooley or Lappas???

You can't consider the topic without addressing the alternatives.

Yes I can.

At seasons' end you make a new list. You can include those, but if BC is not willing to pay the frieght, you get a Duquette loser type.

I say BC will go the going rate and should hire a solid person or seasoned assistant from a winning program other than the Amaker and other types who sat and got bronzed by just being there.

I'm sorry... I must've missed the part where GDF is retiring this Spring. My bad. Because, if GDF is still our AD, the five names listed above is the alpha and omega of our coaching search.

This discussion is making me even more depressed about the future of BC Basketball. So my choices are Al Skinner, or some of his cast off assistants. Or Lappas. :gun

The real problem is GDF.

I would love to see Skinner fired and Ed Cooley hired... for no other reason to watch the OJ meltdown.

dear oj,

please further your pro-gene agenda. based on the football "coaching search" that resulted in spaz as our head coach, please provide reasons why gene would pay top dollar for someone outside the program (when he clearly wasn't ready to with either jags or spaz). feel free to use non-revenue sports to support your argument, such as crawley and other high fliers currently on campus thanks to gene.

thanks for getting real busy with work now.

love always,

Yes, but for self preservation, I hope GDF scuttles Al.

GDF was on my fire list right after he turned into the ULTIMATUM. He done lost his mind.

I think you can look at it this way:

-- Jags (friend of GDF with BC connections)
-- Spaz (friend of GDF with BC connections)
-- Aoki (already here, friendly enough with GDF)
-- Crawley (cheap, willing to listen to Gene and highly recommended by O'Shea)

I have no problem with any of Al's guys taking over. But it won't happen this year and if things melt down that will only eliminate Duquette. O'Shea, Coen and Cooley would all still be in play. If he goes outside Al's tree, it will be to go after a rising midmajor coach. We are not stealing an established coach. Even if the money was right, I don't think Pearl would ever come back to BC. At Tennessee he only faces one heavyweight in Kentucky. In the ACC he would have two to deal with every year.

He could get Baron or McCafferty for relatively cheap and both guys would be here for the next fifteen years. Both would be a significant upgrade over Al. McCafferty would be a huge upgrade.

I like Mcafferty at Siena. Look at what he has done. His team wins the big games, and the MAAC is one of the better mid-major leagues. He coaches at a catholic school, coaches very well, finds talent, he is a great hire.

I like Baron too, and I think his brand of basketball fits very well in the ACC. Either would be great and I think GDF might consider these guys whereas he wouldn't ever consider a guy at a major program.

Does this mean after all these years that 74 was always right that these kids hate the stupid boring flex which handcuffs their abilities and maybe pressing, trapping and running might be more their style since we lack big men or the big men who have the talents to utilize the flex, and we have some fleet running gazelles?

gdf: i like bc basketball... do you like bc basketball?

duquette: i like bc basketball and i hope that bc basketball wins all its basketball matches. oh yeah, and i like bc basketball.

gdf: you're hired. ps - i like bc basketball

You forgot:

Does anyone else ever feel like you could put together a panel of people off this board and they could make more intelligent decisions about BC Athletics than GDF?

On another note I feel bad for Skinner in a way this season, even though I hate his brand of basketball and his lack of coaching ability. The players he has have so much talent, yet are so awful at playing with each other. There isn't much he can do to fix this :titanic

Baron or McCaffrey would be fine, I'd have to imagine our recruiting would pick up especially under Baron with that energetic full court press style of basketball. You can argue whether it is successful or not, but at least it's fun to watch and fun as a player. This current system is nothing short of uninspiring and boring. It also hurts when I'll bet no one on the team can actually diagram me "the flex". They probably think it just involves passing around the permieter before taking an awful three point shot. If they ever figured out how to run it successfully, they'd just miss the lay-up anyway.

Ugh I hate this team so so much.

I don't understand why people claim this team has so much talent. You have an average to below average PG in Biko. Absolutely ZERO in the low post. Trapani is a good player, but undersized at the 4 spot and a liability on D. Raji is tough but also undersized and has no game outside of 5 feet. Jackson has raw talent but has no outside shot. Sanders doesn't have any heart, can't dribble, and is inconsistent as hell. This team really doesn't have that much talent when you take into account the teams we are going against in the ACC.

This is stupid. The question has never been who BC COULD hire as a coach (in any sport). The question is and has always been who WOULD GDF hire as a coach (in any sport). As I am sure we all can admit, having GDF doing the hiring significantly limits the hiring pool and severely handicaps your ability to find a better replacement.

Think about all we went through as a fanbase and a program to get rid of TOB. Imagine if we replaced him with Spazerelli? Wait...

Anyway, for you hoop weirdos chomping at the bit to bring in someone new and exciting, all we are bringing in is someone who is SO similar to Al that they share the same barber.

You just need an Ad who says his only goals match 74's.

We should dominate in basketball being in Boston with the Celtics and the aura and the magic? WTF?

Ryan years never capitalized on in recruiting a QB?

We need a monster prick visionary President and AD who will grab that endowment by the fucking balls, drown these 74 weak limp wristed loser trustees, crucify the homohumping Jesuits cross by cross and one by one on Commonwealth Avenue, and throw a few freshman virgins into a burning sulfur pit dug out by the huge cranes erecting my re-tractable dome on St. John's land!!

I agree. It doesn't take much effort to promote and effectively market a program, especially in a city like Boston and the media that comes along with it. (see Oregon putting a Joey Harrington ad in Times Square. Something that simple put Oregon on the map). It doesn't take much. Promote your star players, create a buzz around your program, market to the local sports fan base. Something GDF/administration fails to do.
