I think only Louisville lost this many players, and their coach left. No idea what the writing on the wall is. We’re replacing each of them with a worse player so far. Is it time to fire up the Bruce Pearl to the heights website again? (In 2029?)

In this environment it doesn’t really matter who the coach is. They’re better off to just eliminate basketball and focus on football and hockey with the limited NIL resources. This team is going to make that Eli Carter team look like the Globetrotters. Earl is a crappy coach that never should’ve been hired, but this mess isn’t on him.

The story regarding Venning gets better. After the transfer was announced I made some calls around Saint Bonnie’s to find out the story and what has come back and can be confirmed by multiple sources is hilarious.

The bottom line is that Venning didn’t go pro as his mama wanted because he was fat and out of shape and only had offers from low level Euro leagues—China and Australia both laughed in his face. Venning had no interest from the P6 with the exception of BC because non-desperate P6 programs could see that he got fatter and more out of shape as the season progressed. The NIL BC offered was less than what he received from Bonnies last year. Venning actually came back to Schmidt to see if he could come back and received a hearty “fuck off” despite the fact that Schmidt’s only current big man is an oft-injured back up who probably would have been run off but for the fact that a couple of underclass front court guys decided to enter the portal. At this point, UMASS, having lost Josh Cohen, kicked the tires with Venning but was not willing to offer him anything with respect to NIL unless he dropped 30 pounds before he got on campus this summer. And this is my favorite part of the story—former Bonnie assistant and current GMU assistant Steve Curran—who is a highly respected big man guru who brought Venning to Bonnies was a finalist for the HC job at Canisius—Venning told people that Curran could get him NIL equal to what he got at Bonnies and could work with him to get him back in shape and positioned to play in Europe next year…but Curran lost out on the job to…Jimmy Christian!

And so we now have a fat, lazy, locker room cancer who is only at BC because Bonnies didn’t want him back, UMASS wouldn’t pay him and Canisius!!! hired Jimmy Christian. Ever to Excel!

I was just thinking the same thing. We cant spread the limited resources too thin or we suck in everything.

You HAVE to keep football because of the money it makes, although funding just basketball and hockey would be cheaper just due to sheer numbers.

Hockey is next because I think we actually can compete for a natty, 3 of every 4 years and we are considered a blue blood.

We have a nice basketball tradition but nothing recently and can get out spent by even small schools since its only a few players. Plus I haven't watched a full college game since Skinner was the coach.

You can’t eliminate basketball. It’ll remove BC from P4 conference consideration in football and remove them from the bulk of the money that makes. They would effectively relegate themselves. You think attendance is difficult when they’re in the ACC, wait til they’re playing in the MAC

Eliminate is a bad word...just dont spend NIL $ on it unless they catch lightening in a bottle. They aren't doing anything until they get a new coach.

I'm actually advocating just eliminating the sport at BC. It's a high-profile revenue sport and going 5-25 every year in basketball is going to be embarrassing (even more so than usual). If you can't find the $2-3M of NIL to support it then just eliminate it.

BCs was already eliminated from P4 conference consideration. FSU/Clemson/Notre Dame/Ohio St don't want to play with the BCs of the world.

I couldn’t be more thankful you people are too busy with your peyote egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches to try and call administration to suggest these things. They have a $37mil+ basketball-only facility they just constructed, this program isn’t going anywhere in more ways than one

Your first sentence is correct. But, the rest is crap. You have to go back to 2012 to find a Men's BB National Champ who is a current member of the SEC or B10. Over that time, six Nat Champs were from the poorly funded Big East. When you also consider the mid majors who have proliferated the Final Fours recently, it is clear that BB is the sport that BC has some chance to compete. To accomplish that... in a world of permanent Portal and NIL, it is foolish to spend money on a head coach. Instead, earmarked coaching salaries should be channeled to overpaying for talent.

This. Not to mention that a 15 player roster is cheaper than a 90-man + countless staff operation that is football. There’s a reason why the Big East is great too; almost all of their funding goes to basketball because they don’t need to even worry about the gas guzzler that is a football program

The one that everyone knows nets more money. The point is, disengaging from basketball has no benefit. It’s not that expensive, smaller programs than this one have succeeded, the foundation is fine for the team to thrive, it just isn’t happening and won’t in 2024 either

Yeah... but the team that beat them got blown out in the Final Four by a dude who was deadly from three in high school (if you didn't force him to go right), but literally couldn't spell "Hurley".

Could someone please explain to AJ Black thatTJ Power will not be transferring to Boston College this summer.

From a report from "Sam Ryder" of "League Ready" via USA Today:

more than 10 teams have reached out to Power since he entered the portal. The most notable names include the USC Trojans, the Michigan Wolverines, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The Arkansas Razorbacks and Kentucky Wildcats, both fresh from the John Calipari coaching change, have also both reached out to the former Blue Devil. Kayser also named ACC foes Miami, Wake Forest, and Boston College, along with BYU, West Virginia, and Iowa.

Thanks.
