Only Senior.

Maybe he steps up and starts draining 3 balls like no tomorrow.

He has been poor to mediocre, but maybe he gets 12 points and 6 rebounds and 4 assists a game!

Everyone has a schedule and maybe his was Senior year?

GO TYLER!!

Tyler could be the new Stephen Curry.....or not...

i was at the game last night and have to say that he was the best guy on the floor. it was more than just being hot from behind the arc... he played d and asserted himself offensively. i realize it's just dartmouth, but he looks very improved.

can't believe i just said all of that.

Roche is playing great. I was a huge Roche hater, but it seems like he hasn't missed a shot this year. Hopefully he keeps it up when we start playing actual basketball teams

I do recall arguing w/ quite a few over on the scout board that Roche would turn into a valuable and serviceable ACC role player on a good BC team....

While this is certainly more than anyone expected (and he's unlikely to keep up this pace, that's for sure), it certainly looks like he's going to be a valuable player in our rotation this year.

For now, I'm going to judge Roche on what he has done the last three years in the ACC, not what he has done in two games with extensive playing time against Dartmouth and St. Francis.

Roche was poor to very ineffective the last 3 years. No argument from anyone.

Now he has been kissed by a hot TCU Babe and this frog is an Eagle.

Roche wins the Wooden award easily and ACC Player of the Year.

Okay...the 2 teams we played were creme filled cupcakes....

WTF was Al Skinner talking about when he said our schedule was brutal?

Roche has turned into Jimmy Chitwood. If BC ever gets into a close game this year (which I doubt b/c Roche is so nasty), Al better run the "picket fence" play for him to drain a 3 and end the game.

Fair enough -- but I think anyone who has been at the games will agree with me when I say, we're seeing a different Tyler. We played cream puffs before and he never showed any of the confidence he's showing now.

My guess? He did some extensive work with a sports psychiatrist who helped him figure out a way to eliminate the mental blocks that kept him from executing during games the way he has in practice and the way he did before arriving on the Heights. Whatever the reason, I'm EXTREMELY happy for him, even if it's an Algernon experience that doesn't last when the ACC schedule rolls around.....A lot of people in his situation would have quit or transferred. That he chose to stay and find a way to contribute says a lot about his character. Bravo Tyler Roche!

And for the record, I don't think he's going to fade as some predict......I think he's going to be the little something extra that make a very good team potentially great this year.

Postby apbc12 on Wed Nov 18, 2009 1:22 pm

Let me preface by saying I don't think Roche will continue to be a major contributor once conference play starts. This is just hopeful speculation.

Back in the mid-'90s there was a guy named Cameron Mills who was a very good high school player (probably the best in KY his senior year), and walked on at UK. His first couple of years he hardly ever played (like 10 minutes a season) as he was completely overmatched athletically. Then his junior year started getting a good amount of minutes and proved to be a lights-out shooter. By his senior year, he was a key bench player and hit a number of huge 3s during UK's run to the '98 title. Maybe Roche will turn out to be that kind of player for us--just needed some time to catch up to the college game and develop enough confidence to knock down shots when he's open.

I just don't want to see him playing PF anymore. He's physically overmatched when we get to ACC play. Would love to have him be a shooter and spread the floor, but please no more PF play.

That said, early reports on Ravenel?

Roche is a monster.

Tyler unleahed.

Stand back...he is gonna drop 30 a game like turnovers on Tyrese Rice.

He is the White Blizzard.

He is the next Larry Bird.

He will make NBA forget about Dino Gallinari and being the New Savior.

Tyler is the ICEMAN.

Tyler is money.

I say one game this year he drops 50 on some team.

Agreed, I am certainly not trying to say he's anywhere close to being a 24.5 ppg scorer or much less will finish in the top 3-4 scoring for BC. What I am saying is that he will be a solid, contributor this season on a very good team in the ACC. If you go back to last year, he was actually quite a bit improved from his first two seasons and was a major reason why we won games against VT and Duke (two wins that we don't get into the NCAA w/out). Moreover, the play that he exhibited this past week wasn't just the result of playing crap competition--he hit a BUNCH of in-rhythm, transition three's--shots that he hasn't hit in years past, despite having the opportunity to quite often. Even in ACC play, he'll have that shot pretty frequently and seeing him knock it down now, certainly doesn't suggest that it won't translate then. Some of the other things he's done (mid-range pull-ups, D, etc.) may not translate as well, but he has always been an intelligent, high-effort play and I expect that to continue, regardless of the opponent.

I don't anticipate these type of performances once the ACC season starts--or anywhere close to them. But he will continue to be a solid contributor off the bench and will play a valuable role in quite a few ACC contests this year. That's a helluva lot more than 99.9% of this board (or EI at the time) predicted during his crappy performances in his first two seasons, specifically saying that he could never play in the ACC and that all the positive news out of "practice" was simply BS.

Let's see how he mixes in with everyone back in the lineup. He's shown a lot of potential so far this year, although it's been against scrubs. If he continues this hot streak, Skinner should seriously consider starting him with Raji coming in as a spark off the bench. Hopefully all of his hard work will finally pay off as a senior.

When history is written in basketball, Tyler Roche will make people say that Michael Jordan was the black Tyler Roche.

Just wait until he teams up with Dino Gallanari of the Knicks.

The Championship Banners at the Top of MSG will flutter and the number will be like a 4th of July Parade!

the Paradise Jam will be renamed the "Tyler Roche Invitational" after he torches purdue and tennessee in back-to-back games.

however, I'd rather see him QB the Virgina team this weekend. Throw for 400 yards and beat Clemson for us. Roche can do that.
