You think those 3 points and 2 rebounds a game he averaged down at UF would've been particularly helpful?

No, but the 9.7 points , 5.9 rebounds and 2.2 blocks he had playing for BC would've helped. I don't think ponts and rebounds he gets at Florida count for BC.

how fucking awesome would it be to hand coach shuhshefskee is last loss in an acc game.

Might not be possible no matter how the Miami-BC game goes. Syracuse leads Dook at the half, 40-36.

Hmmmmmmm.... well, just beat Miami.

Welp, Jim Boeheim probably should have dumped his wife twenty years ago and fathered a couple of more sons because the cupboard at Syracuse is looking mighty bare for next year. True fact, when Shuh-Chef-Ski and Boeheim were talking before the game, even though the conversation took place inside, the douchebag aura emanating off the conversation could be seen from outer space.

In other tournaments, the Diploma Mill's lightly regarded, undergraduate basketball program defeated noted Northern Virginia community college George Mason. Fordham's two A-10 Tournament wins this year has to equal the number of A-10 Tournament wins the school has secured over the last 10-15 years.

Well that was a very BC way to lose. Put up a silly shot with tons of time left on the shot clock and game clock and then sulk while the other team goes down and scores the winning basket. That was almost hockey esque the way that ended for us. :ace

I am disappointed. But that is only because (as Dick said) this team made me care. Losing like that, I thought for sure when that 3-pointer sank to tie the game with just 25 seconds in the second half, that they would win the game in OT.

It was ridiculous.

That said… you can see how this system can work well in tournament settings if Grant is ever able to get talent and an offense together. It’s almost like he’s showing hints of being the opposite of Handsome Al… i.e. someone who may struggle to accumulate enough wins during the season but always has a solid chance to make a run in a tourney.

The team was clearly less talented than almost everyone else in the league, and flawed in obvious ways. But they work, they don't back down, and they play with a chip on their collective shoulder that makes it much more enjoyable to watch an undermanned team than is generally warranted. They came up an inch or two short, twice, of making the ACC semis.

This is how BC has to build a team and play in order to be competitive in the modern game. We will never have a team full of guys with even outside hopes of playing in the NBA. I am by no means fully sold on Earl Grant or BC basketball in general, but I will start next season with more interest than I have in years.

At this point in the history of BC basketball, I'd say that makes this year a minor success.

Agree w Manny's post.

I wanted to add, Grant appears to be a very good in-game coach as far as defensive strategy is concerned. They occasionally press, occasionally go zone, will alter the lineup based on opponent team makeup, and seem to almost always play good team defense in key situations (today's example was the great effort to get Wong's drive to end in a turnover late in regulation).

As a whole, the team reminds me a lot of one of Skinner's early teams (either the year before Troy Bell or his first year, can't remember exactly which) that was gritty and good defensively but took a lot of losses because they weren't good enough or experienced enough offensively. Whether Grant can get and keep enough talent to improve the other areas and replicate some of Al's successes is a big question, but this season felt like at least a minor step forward even before the ACC tournament.

All that said, they did not look good offensively in last shot situations -- Georgia Tech last week, Wake Forest yesterday, and obviously in OT today. Hopefully that's more of a team-talent issue than a coaching issue moving forward.

Last shot situations look better with good shooters.

The end was a predictable kick in the nuts but this was a nice run.

Makai took the shot with 5 seconds on the shot clock and 7.5 seconds on the game clock. Just a really bad decision to take a really bad shot.

Teddy is correct... talent tends to make those end-of-game decisions seem much better. Was it a terrible sequence at the end of OT... absolutely. But, the fact remains that a Bad News Bears roster made it to the last second of OT in their 3rd game of the ACC tournament.

Yesterday's starting 5 of Langford Bros, Post, Karnik and Zackery all would see minutes on other ACC programs. Not sure who of them will be back (between transfer portals and AARP eligibility). Hopefully, there are a handful of players who can help continue the culture-building with the new blood entering the program.

Don was an exciting hire and immediate disappointment. Christian was a joke from the beginning and never attempted to prove otherwise. Grant was an outside-the-box hire that has looked pretty damn promising. Hopefully, he builds off of his Year 1 success. Because, I actually enjoy watching his team play. Frustrated as all hell with their inability to score... but, if they ever get that side of the ball fixed, they would actually be a quality program. Seeing the possibility of becoming an average-ACC team is a major accomplishment in just 11-months.
