to me this is a lot different than the wake coach was in the first four and went 19-14 (9-9) last year. as a wake fan, this year i would be expecting progression beyond that, so 11-18 (4-13) would be a fireable offense to me.
similarly, if jimmy mac does not improve upon his record from this season next season and make the ncaa's, i would imagine he will be axed.
This. I actually think he's a good coach. Last night was a clinic in coaching. He has his nights, and sometimes the team doesn't look ready coming out of the locker room, but he adjusts, calls good plays and generally has a good gameplan against the abnormal, like Cuse's zone. A prime example would be that BC never has much trouble with the press anymore - last night's absurd 10 second call notwithstanding - when a decent CYO team could have pressed the Al and Don teams out of the gym. Ask Bruce Pearl.
He also has shown a decent eye for recruiting the way that Al recruited - find the underrated guys that will be there four years. He's also clearly made Robinson and Bowman and Chatman better players while they were here, and while less obvious, the bigs have improved on his watch.
He's got a big red flag - he has no bench because the depth of the talent he has recruited isn't there, and there have been a ton of transfers. These aren't good things. But an AD can convince themselves after this season and this recruiting class that it is worth one more shot with this guy because there should be decent depth and an NCAA run. And when you build a program designed to win with seniors, it takes time to get seniors. It's taking this guy too long, but it is what it is.
why don't you marry him?
That's all you have to say about that post?
pretty much. i'm embarrassed to admit that my hatred of jimmy mac has softened and other than his random wtf turd game a couple times a month, i realize he might be an okayish coach. tedwardo laid it out pretty well as to why and i sadly agree with a lot of it. i'm not ready to marry jimmy mac like 49dueagle was ready to marry ballgame, but i also don't hate him with the power of eleventy,000,000,000 exploding red pills
it reminds me a little of jobias in the early going, and his curley-eisley-huckaby-abrams class. they underachieved in their 3rd year and i was ready to play bongos on jobias's head as he was led out of conte... but he put together a helluva 4th year for those fellows. granted, the game has moved on a little in the last 24 years and our juniors aren't all likely to stay... but if they did i think jimmy mac might be able to make a run (and maybe only lose 1 or 2 television-breakingly-terrible-games)
there, i said it.
p & s - fuck t.s. slaughter in the eyeball. my opinion of him will never change
