Providence game thread AKA the Roonie Invitational

Postby Corporal Funishment on Fri Dec 23, 2016 10:08 am

Catholics vs Convicts

This one feels like a rocketshipping to me. Hoping to be wrong.

Want to see Bowman continue to play well and Sagay at the game to allay my fears he might transfer.

Will we win another game this year?

Sagay as sick seems like total BS to me. He hasn't played since 12/3 where he seemed to be expanding into the rotation, playing 15 minutes (not just garbage time). Hasn't seen the floor since. So he's been sick for 3 weeks?

I had chosen to stay away, but I will give you one last post. Sagay has mono. Probably not available for several weeks. Ty Graves transferred out after last Sunday's game. His father pulled him out when it was obvious he was being beaten out by a fellow freshman. Too small to be a 2 guard in the ACC and definitely, by far, the worst defensive player on the squad. The same thing happened when he wasn't getting any run at Monteverde last year. Hurts for depth this year, but going forward it is not a loss. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Since you're here I'll ask, if Sagay was healthy to what extent would he be eating into Owens'/Chatman's minutes? It's clear where the ceiling is highest here. And is Kraljevic a 4 or a 5

Sagay would be getting between 5 - 10 minutes. He was getting better and JC was getting more comfortable with him. If he was equal to Owens, Sagay would get the minutes because of his great potential. Kraljevic is a 4 and is playing very well.

Too bad on Graves. Not because he was any good, but because this locks in Jordan "3 and D" Chatman into a really significant role and I can't stand watching him. He's like a worse version of Dallas Elmore.

Maybe this guy is going to get a John Cahill-esque run: http://www.bceagles.com/roster.aspx?rp_ ... ath=mbball

Sagay/mono sucks. There's not much to enjoy about this team, but at least the recent recruits (Bowman, Sagay, Pop, Jerome) show occasional flashes of ACC talent or athleticism. Now we're locked into Tava and Jeffers and Owens, ugh.

Guessing Reyes is probably the next to jump ship given his ever diminishing role despite there being zero impediment to just running with him considering who is in front of him on the depth chart.

There's always a lot of trying to make obvious facts not mean anything in context, but things like "Hey, Mo Jeffers played us last year and against that formiddable Dennis Clifford/Idy Diallo front line put up an incredible 0 pts, 4 boards, 4 turnovers, 4 fouls line; he might not be any good" and "Hey, we played our regular rotation (e.g., didn't even try to get the new frosh some experience) and played Stonehill to essentially a coin-flip game" might have been harbingers of things to come, I think.

I disagree. Freshman PGs are not fun and we're going to have another one next year.

Ditto. Graeves could have been a nice piece moving forward.

Edit: Bowman has also improved a ton, he can kinda dribble now. Dude is going to be good

Bowman's going to get 35 minutes a game now, which will probably be good for him because he can be aggressive (his strength) and play through mistakes without having to worry about being benched if he does something boneheaded.

On the downside, Bowman/Robinson both being asked to play 35 minutes a game is probably going to hurt the team defense. I felt like we were tired at the end of the Fairfield loss which contributed to the bad transition D and the really really bad weak fouls.

Chatman, who I actually think has a lot of ability, needs to contribute to fill the void.

This has Outlow/Hilliman situation written all over it, not totally shocked, but its a shame because going forward thought Graves could be decent piece

If this is his attitude, do you really think he would have contributed in the long run? If he was leaving for reasons other than playing time, I would agree with you, but if he's grown tired of competing less than one third into the season then I don't think he would have been reliable in years to come.

This is so great. I can't remember a game where we shot like this since we beat Florida State in 11-12

This team has potential. Season is an absolute roller coaster. Providence is a decent team. Bowman and Robinson together are great. Maybe the best tandem we've had in the last several years. Fwiw I believe there is more talent on this team then any of Donahue's teams.

Tava is really hurting us and going to be overmatched every single game the rest of the season. Add a good forward to Bowman, Robinson, Turner, and Popovic and we have the potential to be a very good team in the future.
