I mean, obviously as it doesnt "count." But it's not like we played out walkons or bench guys too much. Sagay didn't even see the floor, Reyes only because of foul trouble, etc. this had the look of the real rotation and they prevailed basically because Jerome Robinson is really good (we knew that) and Mo Jeffers is an oversized 5 against d2 (and will be undersized the rest of the season).
For all the talk of offense, that was really it.
I think the greater issue is they have struggled against these d2 exhibition opponents a lot recently, ,coincidentally (or not so much) while being one of the worst d1 major programs. So for any hope for the latter to be improving, eliminating the former would be a nice little sign. As it was, not so much.

These D2 teams stand around and launch 3s (Stonehill had like 30 of them). A bunch go in and it makes the games look close.
Sagay is a project, been saying that ever since he signed.

I read Reyes played well early and then didn't play anymore. Might have gotten hurt.

twballgame9 {l Wrote}:You can't tell shit from these idiotic exhibition games, but did anyone expect them to be good? They have two freshman PGs, they plugged holes with 5th year guys that didn't do much at small schools, and their best players are sophomores. I'm just looking for solid upward trajectory and a sign that Bowman/Graves can play.

BC has a 1-2 possession lead essentially the whole game, I think they expanded it to 9 once, but never got higher than that. Offensively, there was some familiar weavery before the heavery and some new variations of weavery before the heavery that were more based on curling around screens and flashing to the basket. I did notice a concerted effort to get the ball up the floor quickly but it didn't directly lead to a lot of transition points. Defensively, as has been mentioned the problem was way way too much cheap fouling, which seems to be the problem every year in these exhibition games, but it's also been a problem in real games so you can't dismiss it. With about 5 minutes left we essentially changed the offense to "Robinson drives every time" as probably 12 of the last 15 possessions were some kind of layup or floater attempt. This was actually pretty successful, but it was eerily reminiscent of last year's scrimmage where Eli Carter won the game singlehandedly at the end which did not prove to be a sustainable strategy...
Robinson: looked fine
Jeffers: looked better than you'd expect for a guy who averaged 4 points a game at Delaware, had some weight on the guys on the other team but also looked fairly nimble finishing around the hoop
Turner: Different year same AJ Turner
Tava: picked up 2 fouls really quickly so sat a lot first half, had a couple good plays but you could easily forget he was on the court for long stretches, against some ACC teams there's going to be no place to hide him on defense
Bowman/Graves: combining these 2 because the bottom line is the same. Bowman started the game, Graves started the second half, may have been because Bowman had 3 fouls or may have been lineup tinkering. Both were good at pushing the ball up the court fast, but both were far too unassertive in the half court. I don't think either one ever took a defender off the dribble all game. Maybe freshman nerves but really need one of them to do more than just initiate the offense/swing the ball around...pay attention for improvement here as we go. Bowman played the first half with a long-sleeve shirt under his jersey which was a new one for me.
Popovic: fumbled the ball a couple times and didn't do all that much but I think there's a good player hidden somewhere in there
Reyes: played 1 shift when other guys were in foul trouble, scored I think 3 baskets which were all bunnies but still. Also committed 2 quick fouls and back to the bench.
Chatman: Hit 2 threes, didn't stand out outside of that good or bad
Owens: Same guy as always, based on rotations may be seeing less playing time this year
Meznieks: I don't think he was even at the game
Sagay: didn't play, only non-walkon to do so. Either in the Sammy Barnes Thompkins suspension club or not part of the rotation
There's one new walkon...think another Pornopiglia...not on the roster site so a mystery man

I'm not really soliciting feedback from tranny porn enthusiasts at this time

begs the question whether he had those on standby or put them together in five minutes. Im not sure which seems more likely.
