I'm in the minority with this opinion, but I much preferred Milon to SBT. Neither plays defense. I could really do without SBTs antics, this team is already unpleasant enough to watch

Someone on BCI mentioned that Hicks and Diallo are also 100% gone. Not sure on the truth there

I agree with you on this.

I leave the opinion on the antics to those 5 people that attended games, because I did not see it on the TV. He's a FAR better player than Milon at this stage of his career. That said, I already said I would have liked to see both stay, Milon could have helped.

Again, my list was all about talent, not height or being a dude.

Hicks, Milon, and Diallo will not be returning.

Is Milon leaving his decision or the staff's? Sounds like Idy and Hicks were not invited back.

i'm patiently awaiting the answer to this question because it's DEFINITELY coming

another question - is this vaunted 5th year going to sign some time before meznieks is a 5th year or is this a long con to try to claim meznieks was the vaunted 5th year all along?

Milon's departure was mutually agreed upon by both parties.

So players that can shoot and are tall - no go. Any more athletic wings on the horizon?

Not in the least. I am just saying that we should give the guy this year before calling for his job. And If we win less than 10 games next year, I will be the first in line with my pitchfork and torch calling for JC's head to roll.

That being said, I,like others, initially viewed JC as a competent X's and O's guy that may have trouble recruiting kids to play in front of the Conte ghosts. Recent updates from LDE have me believing that the assistant coaches are sufficiently making up for this perceived deficiency and thus I am willing to give JC and staff the benefit of the doubt. If we can get around 15 wins this year, I would think this bodes well for the future.

I agree that he should get another year, but I find it difficult to say that I have confidence in the staff or that they should be given the benefit of the doubt after going winless in the conference.

I don't get it. If all three have been granted their release, then how are some departures mutually agreed upon and others not?

Aka, coaches didn't see a longterm role for Milon moving forward.

Whereas Hicks and Diallo are leaving despite the coaches wanting them to stay?

My guess would be that Milon had the chance to stay if he wanted to, and Idy/Hicks had the decision made for them. I would imagine Milon said something like "having X playing time is important to me" and the staff said "we can't guarantee you that much" and Milon said "OK I think I want a transfer" and the staff said "good luck we understand."

Edit: I am also strongly operating under the assumption that if we get 3 fifth years Meznieks gets the axe

So either the above scenario happened or higgi's scenario happened and I would really like to know which one it is.

Upon further reflection and for your perusal, here's the new scholarship math. No one else needs to be cut unless we get THREE more players than we have now. Meaning we have space for another 5th year and another freshman, or 2 more 5th years. If we were to get TWO MORE 5th years AND another freshman, we would have to make another cut. There is also the possibility that one of the freshmen doesn't qualify or there is another voluntary transfer out.

1 FR Graves
2 FR Bowman
3 FR Sagay
4 FR Popovic
5 SO Robinson
6 SO Turner
7 SO Barnes-Thompkins
8 SO Reyes
9 SO Meznieks
10 SR Owens
11 SR Tava
12 SR unknown 5th year 1
13 unknown 5th year 2 / 5th Freshman

every team needs at least one guy that can hit a cup of coffee in the crowd, 5 rows up, with a rifled pass

He can be on the team. His minutes just need to be 0. As your 10th man or whatever he's fine.

This is a bit OT in re: to Milon, but does anyone know the rules around 5th year transfers in regards to transferring within conference ??

If it is the same as football, it is allowable if the new school has an academic offering that player's old school didn't offer. I am pretty sure that was the rule that applied to Tyler Murphy. The siriuz posters will be able to confirm or correct.

He wanted to know in conference. In conference for regular transfers sometimes requires an additional year of sitting. I think that is what he was asking.

I believe the additional year thing is a conference rule, not and NCAA rule, so anything on the 5th years is likely in the same place.

in conference i thought it was part of the school's/coach's release in that it's not a rule but most schools/coaches will extend your release to two years for a conference school.

this is based on memory and likely wrong, but it's always been my understanding.

caveat: i don't even like sports
