Watching Xavier play with their center who looks a lot like Caudill, I think we all owe Caudill an apology, he didn't suck because of his lack of conditioning, it was his lack of skills all along.

I still consider there to be a non-zero chance that Caudill is back next year.

Also, would anyone have thought "John Cain Blarney" is a funny nickname? It passed through my mind and I wasn't sure it was funny.

Bill Coen's Huskies mangling their final possession was so Skinner-era BC that I'm pretty sure Al drew that play up for them.

It doesn't matter how this game turns out, NC St. is still a miserable, miserable, seltzer-soaked program.

I used to look forward to yesterday and today all year. Often, I would take a vacation day to watch the games. This year, for the first time since high school, I did not fill out a bracket. I also did not watch a single game. I understand that Kentucky is undefeated, but I can't name a single player on the team.

bracket. I also did not watch a single game. My apathy for BB knows no bounds. When we were searching for a replacement for Don, I wanted a monster name not only because I thought that it would be the best and fastest way for BC to succeed... but it might get me to start giving a shit again. Here's my question... Has college BB jumped the shark? With the 1-and-dones, the proliferation of mid-majors, the NBA being a trainwreck, scandals, all the top coaches nearing retirement.. it just seems that there is nothing for the average college fan to look forward to on a year-by-year basis. I know attendance and TV numbers were not good this year and am curious to see the numbers from the tourney.

I don't know how to fix it either. The talent seems spread too thin. There isn't enough talent to support the top 30 programs to bring in 6 new kids every year (leaving the the other 200 teams fighting for players). Simply, there aren't enough talent to justify the 400 high schoolers who get D1 interest. Best suggestion I can think of is allowing NBA teams to draft High School players, but once they land in college, they have to stay for 3 years.

you must be the kind of cop that lets 4 offenders by before finally nailing the 5th. i had to check the time of the post several times while reading moj's stupidity to see if it was a thursday night drunken rant. it made me miss teddy's thursday night drunken rants and caused me to lose focus on what moj was trying to babble on about. ahhh, drunken rants

If I were in charge, I would:

-Eliminate 1 timeout per team
-A coach's timeout after the time break automatically becomes a media timeout (my biggest pet peeve)
-Move the shot clock to 30 seconds (signs point to this happening soon)

I don't mind the 1 and doners, I think it actually helps maintain competitive balance. Imagine if Kentucky had John Wall, Demarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis etc on the same team at the same time. The current system allows teams that keep guys for 4 years to be contenders even if they're not all-Americans.

if you change the requirement to 3 year or some similar nfl type rule you'll find high school kids headed to europe and other places to play in the "minors" for a few years before they can get drafted. the kentuckys and louisvilles have proven that you can hide a kid and his lack of academics for a semester. the carolinas and syracuses have proven that you can't hide them forever.

Basketball's problem is not the talent level. Some of the mid major games are much more fun to watch because the teams are cohesive and have received coaching for four years. The problem is the game itself when it is played by the top athletes, It sucks. It's all dunking and chucking ill advised threes. The NBA is worse.

Agreed on the 30 second shot clock & fewer timeouts

Think they should institute the baseball rule. If you show up to college you need to stay for 3 years.

I think the shot clock is not long enough. The shorter clock murders offense. That's why the NBA basically has one half court play - the pick and roll. It sucks.

agreed. shortening the shot clock turns this into a game of H.O.R.S.E. let them play basketball and allow them enough time to perform basketball moves.

if you instant gratification fucking millenials want something different, go watch a dunk contest on high speed

Every team in the NBA with a competent coach runs more sets in 24 seconds than any college team will run in 35. Force the players/coaches to speed it up a bit and they will adapt.

going with "quality of basketball played in the nba" is not going to get you any support here.

is dribbling still required in the nba or has it turned into more of a rugby with baskets?

The insistence of some members of this board that taking the highest quality players and coaches from the college game and forming a league out of them results in a lower quality of play has always been ridiculous. I've always thought it was like reading the opinion of a man who was obsessed with minor league baseball but turned his nose up at the major leagues. Hey, they're all prima donnas, right? And the minor league refs are so much more consistent! And minor leaguers have so much more heart! Anyone who understands baseball knows the major leagues is an inferior product!

the athletes of the nba and their athletic ability is far superior to the college game. no one will argue that. whether the 10 players on the court are playing "basketball" is arguable.

This is like the "ACC player" thing all over again. Maybe the argument can't be resolved. Let's agree to disagree, and rather than arguing, make veiled snarky references to each other's positions whenever we have nothing better to argue about.
