Good effort. Fun to watch. Just not enough talent.

No help again from the 5th years. We have no chance if those guys do nothing. :ace

This. It's good to know that with every game I'm starting to believe more and more that Coach Jim is half decent and not a total bust like Donahue.

Unlike the bench batten and brown play acc defense. Even when they don't score they are contributers

Their defense is not good enough to overcome contributing only 6 points (total). The difference of the game is the 15 points we would have needed from them to stay competitive. :ace

I'm open to alternatives. Ideas?

This is my problem I guess. The players coming in next year are fine, but BC needed Mann, Turner, Sharma to fix this mess

My thoughts exactly. The "talent" on this team is nowhere near the ACC!

The guys on the bench dont have the athletic ability to play D in the ACC.

Owens, with the athletic ability, has no clue on defense. Nor does Odio

Donahue was a bomb because of recruriting. I really don't care how well Christian coaches, if he can't bring in some serious talent we're in major trouble in the ACC.

I thought BC was going to much one on one offensively.

Virginia is going to frustrate every team it plays because of their all-out tenacity on defense and the way they break help defenses down for open dishes and/or offensive board crashes (deluxe edition today). It was amazing that despite giving Virginia 2-3 tries at the basket almost every possession that BC was able to stay close and even jump out to a 5 point lead early in the 2nd half.

Jim Christian has the team playing aggressive defense---which is a big step---except without tenacious rebounding it becomes a house of cards. And the offense is showing some improvement signs as the players are now getting into decent game shape.

What is mystifying is why in the world Christian would take Heckmann out of the game when he was in Virginia's heads and on fire. Few players ever have that kind of success versus their defense. Essentially, Jim Christian iced his hottest shooter in a game that BC was unexpectedly right in. All for inserting Eddie Odio in his place who clearly is a liability on both ends of the floor.

The other obvious thing is---why, no matter who the coach is since the days of Corey Raji---there is virtually no effort on their parts to hit the offensive boards, as players stand around and watch drives to the hole and jump shots. Twice I saw a three ball go up from one corner and Batten standing in the opposite corner and he just stands there. Meanwhile on the other end the Virginia freshman guard crashes the backside and takes an offensive rebound right over Garland Owens who is in premier position to rebound the ball to keep yet another Virginia possession alive.

The epitome was finally breaking the 10-0 Virginia run and getting back with 3 points and finally getting a clean defense rebound and Batten can't handle the outlet pass for yet another turnover. Very frustrating. As were the numerous times when BC did scramble for loose balls and wound up with a foot on the out of bounds line.

This team is frustrating to watch---but they are making some progress. This Virginia tape is a coaching tape deluxe---and if this team can turn what they learn from this tape into a positive they might surprise us at some point.

Pretty much, he's got them playing hard every night on both ends (really the only one you can quibble with on effort is Hanlan on D) they're just not that good, which beyond 5th years he couldn't do much about.

Odio should never see the floor.

Pornopiglia getting time is comical.

Today:
@GoodmanESPN
If Patrick Heckmann had played like this, Steve Donahue would still be here.

November 16th:

@GoodmanESPN
Nice to see BC big man Dennis Clifford back on the court. If he'd been healthy, there's a chance Steve Donahue would still be Eagles coach.

Starting 5 plus Owens and Magarity felt like they were + today. When Pornopiglia and Odio replaced Heckman and Hanlan before the under 12 TV TO and then got stuck out there for a while for a 6 or 8 point run the game was over. Nail in the coffin was Batten's awful fumble out of bounds. But they played well.

Another game where it felt like Diallo, even lost on offense, would have made a big difference.

There is no reason to play the walk on kid at all. Steal two minutes with Batten at PG.

I agree with epstein...give Batten 2 mins a game at the point.

Batten did a great job on Virginia's leading scorer Justin Anderson (0-8 FG, 0-4 3's---was shooting 55% on 3's coming in).

BC shot 40% in both halves...Virgina 32% & 34%...but they had so many more shots thanks to 13 offensive rebounds...to BC's 3.

BC faces Syracuse's zone Tuesday night...and their zone offense has been poor....no high low post action or short corners or picks on the ball...just three man top passing back and forth. Hopefully, a new scheme will be in place.

Batten and Brown would be excellent additions to a team that had 2-3 scorers. On a team with one scorer, they are good defenders that don't help on O. Batten in particular is a sick defender.

Unless BC shoots the lights out, Cuse is a nightmare for BC. The weakness I've seen with JC is his zone offense design is weak. He also has one good shooter, which I think is more of the problem.

Coming soon from Jeff Goodman; amassachusettsguy.com.

Pornopiglia is an instant classic and at least him playing gives us the opportunity to post it.
