When you combine the PR hit Bates took for hiring an unknown and the unknown's history of recruiting JUCO players and the huge number of scholarships that will need to be filled in the next two seasons, is there any chance Bates just gives Christian a free pass to go after as many JUCO players he wants in the next several seasons?

[quote="Corporal Funishment"]The scholarship imbalance isn't quite as bad as you guys think it is because Clifford and Hicks both effectively got pushed back a class. We are running low on players though:

Magarity: doesn't his dad have connections here? in line for a lot of playing time at least

I thought his connections were to Philly ergo Donahue...

It would have been nice to have a decent season next year to build on, but if Hanlan and leaves too, this team will probably be awful. Is Anderson graduating early or will he have to sit out a year? He should be a hot commodity, he could help almost any top program. If nothing else he should get a master's degree to fall back on once his career is over.

Transfer kids, whether athletes or not, were always weirdos anyway. So long, weirdo.

Hanlan is different. If you are leaving to get paid, get paid.

You know when someone takes your picture with a flash and then you see that white spot when you close your eyes? that's what it looks like when I see chalk boy's picture.

Warn me to put on my eclipse glasses or a welding mask before you post that picture next time.

Is it Bates' call? That seems like more of an admissions/Leahy call than Bates.

There's a 0% chance of the JUCO route. My guess is they get some transfers and late signees. Maybe Christian can find a decent 5th year or something

Let me ask this question. Some people are roasting Anderson for not getting his BC degree, saying that unless he transfers to Harvard or Stanford he is making a huge mistake. Let's take it a step further and say he transfers to a non academic basketball school like San Diego ST and gets his degree from there. How much does it matter to a kid like Anderson? Let's say regardless of whether he graduates from BC or SDST, he is going to have a 10 year career overseas and then comes back at 33 years old needing a job. If he is going to return to California, does it matter whether he went to BC or sd st? Let's say he is your genetic high div 1 hoop player and academics are not a high priority. He is not going to the high finance world. Isn't he just as likely to get hooked up by a sd st grad in CA as he would as he would as having a BC degree in communications with a 2.5 gpa?

Probably. I think the thing that annoys me, and most others on this board, is that we value BC and the degree that we earned. And for someone else to DE-value that same degree by being pro-BC (captain, etc.) and then just throw it away by going to a school none of us would have considered, like say SDSU, is extremely frustrating.

For Anderson and other athletes not from the Boston area, a BC degree probably doesn't mean as much, and quite frankly I think that he will have the same amount of success both in athletics and career-wise with a degree from BC, SDSU, or UC-Irvine.

Not sure why anyone would roast him. I have no issue with him transferring. If he can find a better situation, good for him he deserves it.

Just not sure why anyone would lose sleep over it. We were going to suck either way. At least this gives our new regime (whether we like it or not they are here for a while, I know I don't like it) to do what they want to do with this program.

My only argument against the people who say it doesn't make a difference if he leaves or stays is this: in college basketball it's always better to win even one more game, if all players returned and the team goes .500 it will help recruiting as opposed to having another 8 win season. Having another awful season could be the difference between landing your prized recruit and him deciding that BC is just too far down right now to commit.

Instead of calling Anderson stupid for passing on his BC degree, we should be calling BC stupid for being such a shitshow that a kid is willing to turn his back on his BC diploma (which is 3/4ths completed) just to get the fuck out.

Isn't Christian known for recruiting a lot of JUCOs? I know that doesn't usually happen at BC, but hopefully he can bring in some upper classmen so the team doesn't go 0-for the ACC and get rocketshipped OUT.

that might be just the nudge we need to get in the all-american national championship of the universe conference. that is, of course, if we fall inside their footprint

Imagine being called to the Party Mansion thinking it was your night to pitch. Instead you caught all night long. Not what you signed up for.

Anderson is not a 5. He is 3/4. He sacrificed for his crappy coach and the betterment of his teammates. He caught at the Party Mansion if you will.

RA loved BC. Loved it.

Lebron loved Cleveland too. Lebron left Cleveland because they never got him a wing man. An old Shaq, Mo Williams, Antawn J. Suckers, all of them. Running the parade was Mike Brown and a lunatic casino-obsessed owner who wrote the stupid letter saying the Cavs would win the title before Miami.

Hardly saying RA was Lebron. But people leave shitty situations, even if they love the place where the shit is happening.

YOLO bitches. If the young man likes his chances elsewhere to pursue his passion, good on him. Short of getting the BC degree, there is basically no reason for him to stay at BC.

IMHO:
1. RA made the only sensible decision in the circumstances.

2. Hanlon is not ready for the NBA, but will get no better here. He should transfer.

3. Same for Rahon and Owens and Hicks.

two of them are freshman, and one of those freshman hasn't seen the court yet. but it's cool; who needs progress and on-court evaluation to see if a player can get better?
