Assistant Coach Candidates

Has anyone heard anything about who might get on the staff?

I heard John DeFilipo is a strong candidate for a spot on the bench.

there aren't many things which could make this situation worse but failure to get a good recruiter / NE prep ties would probably qualify :screamyeagle

According to TOS, Scott Spinelli, Asst. at Maryland is in play. He would be a huge get and IMO is more qualified to be the head coach than Sister Christian.

Recruited Jake Layman and Evan Smotrycz both who came from Mass. Someone who knows the New England area needs to be a top priority

The Beacon Street grapevine has it that Jimmy Carter has signed, given his lock on PLains, GA players.
BC once attracted stars like Abrams, Adams, Agbai, Austin, Bagley, Barros, Bell, Curley, Driscoll, Dudley, Eisley, Evans, Huckaby, Jackson, McCready, Murphy, O'Brien, Rice, Smith, Williams, et al.

Those days are gone.

And who is responsible for that?

Sources also indicated Christian has interest in bringing aboard Mike Jarvis II, the assistant director of men’s basketball player development/head team manager at Duke. Jarvis is the son of former BU coach Mike Jarvis.

Blauds floated hiring Jay Murphy and get Tomas as part of a package. The way the Murphys have handled things, I doubt that happens. However, I wouldn't be opposed to hiring an assistant who comes as part of a package with a son or relative.

Screw Jay Murphy. Let him send his sons to suck elsewhere.

I am going to assume that the two names listed Jarvis and Spinelli are just faking high interest in BC to drum up a pay raise still their respective schools.

I doubt Duke is going to get into a bidding war with us over Jarvis. He's only an Ops guy for them.

No idea if Spinelli is real.

Jarvis was most recently at FAU as an assistant coach to his father. He is desperate for a job. Spinelli can do better than to work for "Coach 3 Years and I am Out of a Job."

This Jarvis hasn't been at Duke for a while. That said, I don't think he'd necessarily be a bad addition. Just... that we aren't fighting Duke to retain his services.

I hate the JC hire... absolutely hate it... but, throughout BC BB history, our talent has mostly been linked to assistants. Skinner was a scion when he had O'Shea, Cooley, Coen and Duquette and was a disaster when he had Bonzi and Cassera. Obie won only when Spiller and Biancardi handed him great talent. Christian's ability to recruit is going to be largely dictated by his top two assistants. Because of that, Spinelli would be a great get (pretty close to ideal). I've heard Darrin Horn's name mentioned and wouldn't be surprised to see Mike Jarvis Sr and Stan Heath get consideration. As for Jarvis II, I'd expect him to come in as the 2nd or 3rd assistant.

THE answer:

Pay Obama 10 mil to resign and become our chief recruiter.

Can you just imagine his allure?

His appeal would be wondrous: e.g. "If you like your cocaine, you can keep your cocaine at our school."

Give Christian credit on this one...getting a proven recruiter is a step in the right direction. Doesn't sound like Tariq Owens will be released of his LOI from Ohio which is a bummer.

JC does deserve a ton of credit if he brings in Spinelli. Like Joe Jones before, getting proven recruiters on staff is the best way to assure job security at BC.

As for Owens... is that official or were they going to keep denying his release until they got a head coach in place (and had the chance to talk to him)?
