If that's true, then it was Bates's plan all along to let Fogler pick the next coach.

As I wrote above, I too have heard that Bates was planning to bring Don back and told him as much (which led to the Thamel piece). I don't know why he planned to bring him back... it could have been for a very good reason (e.g. wanting to minimize the payout so he could maximize the amount he could spend on a hire).

and i have heard that bates planned to get rid of him since january but donahue leaked to thamel that he was staying because, you know, he wanted to keep his job

based on all the untrue things that you "hear" and tell us about, i think i'll take a pass on accepting your version as the absolute truth

For the record, I was also told the same thing months ago. However, I was told that Bates planned on bringing him back by more people than I told me he was being fired. Based on how things shook out the past few weeks, in retrospect, I believe the "he planned on bringing him back" info was more accurate.

In rectifying the inconsistencies, it is important to note that Bates... like GDF... is a salesman. He tries to get people to donate... to buy tickets, etc. He is going to say a lot of conflicting things to different groups because he is going to tell them what he thinks they want to hear.

so, to be clear, when you post all your conflicting prognostications that take both sides of most issues... it's because you hear both things and only report what you hear.

did blauds teach some class that you atteneded or something?

This is a pointless debate because either Bates thought Donahue should be brought back (bad) or he knew he was going to fire him in January and this was the best he could do in a coaching search, both in process and outcome (just as bad).

If the latter is true, then Bates also made a stupid decision in not telling Leahy and/or BOT right when the season was over. No one knew what the fuck was going on when the Thamel article came out. If Bates had made his intentions known immediately, everybody would have known that it was just Donahue trying to save his job.

It's totally fine and to be expected that the AD is a salesman.

It is not fine if said AD doesn't know what he's doing when it comes to hiring people.

If Bates planned to bring back Don, he's a fucktard.

If Bates planned to fire Don, and wasn't prepared for the possibility that Jay Wright would say no, he's a bigger fucktard.

As the old saying goes, "either way ..."
