Is BC the most attractive head coaching job available?

Postby talon on Fri Mar 21, 2014 2:08 pm

Wake Forest is probably the #1 job available right now, and if they can get Shaka Smart, VCU probably takes their spot as #1 job available. But is BC #2? Or does that depend on how much money Virginia Tech is willing to spend?

Are there any coaches about to retire or jump to the NBA that would jump to the #1 job available spot?

I actually think BC is third behind Wake and VT. Number two winter sport on campus and Conte Morgue.

I meant college jobs.

Although the NBA would be in play if an NBA team hired a college coach, opening up that college.

I think VPI's position as #2 or #3 really depends on how much they're willing to spend.

I think Greenberg made about a million and a half a year. Johnson was making less than $700,000 and I think he was the lowest paid coach in the ACC.

Just for reference, here's the coaching carousel from four years ago:

http://msn.foxsports.com/collegebasketb ... ges-042810

other high major conference teams that year: Auburn, Clemson, Colorado, Depaul, Iowa, Iowa State, Oregon, Seton Hall, St. John's, & Wake Forest

Yes, BC is one of the few attractive jobs this go around. That is a good thing. Definitely should have our pick of the litter for the most part.

VT is no longer available.

Buzz Williams.

Is the Marquette job more attractive than BC now?

VT landing a guy we could never hope targeting answers the debate as to whether VT is ahead of BC... it is. I think tHe debate is where does BC fall among Marquette (Big East) and USF (AAC). At this point, I think there is sadly no debate over BC being the least desirable basketball program in all the Big Five.

Willimas was making $3 mill a year at Marquette, he actually took a pay cut to go to VT.

According to a source with direct knowledge of the negotiated deal, Williams took a pay cut to come to Virginia Tech and the ACC. Williams' first-year salary at Virginia Tech will be $2.3 million, according to the source, which will be significantly less than his $3 million annual salary at Marquette. Williams' buyout to leave Marquette was $100,000, according to the source.

His buyout to leave Marquette was only $100,000. The source said Williams made over $3 million a year at Marquette last year.

BC's coaches' salaries were cheap 10 years ago, now they're just laughable.

Williams is trashing the New Big East to the media. Says the TV deal and profile of the conference stinks. Maybe other Big East coaches like Wright and Mack really are in play.

Everyone is doubting Bates. They shouldn't. Hell last week we were told Steve Donahue was coming back, mainly because Steve Donahue told the media he was coming back and Bates stood up and said fuck that noise.

Bates may not be a basketball guy, I've heard he isn't too comfortable with the whole hiring of a new basketball coach, but he knows he needs to hit a home run here and he will.

Best part about the whole situation is there are no names being tossed out. There are no leaks. You watching GDF? You don't need to tell everyone what the fuck is going on every second of the day.

1. why would we be watching gdf?
b. could no names getting tossed out mean that they have not yet begun to look?
iii. does anyone really expect a home-run hire? i don't view sgt slaughter as a home-run hire but i do view him as a strong step in the right direction and hope for something similar in h00pZ.

maybe we should look at coach k. after a loss in the first round dook may just get rid of him

im not expecting a home-run hire per se, but i think it could happen & i think bates deserves the benefit of the doubt at this point.

Hard to imagine BC outspending Nova ($2.29M/yr) or Wright taking a substantial paycut. Hell, I would be surprised if BC pays the next basketball coach $1.5M.

"Villanova basketball coach Jay Wright's salary is $2,290,346, 10th among coaches who made the NCAA Tournament...." http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/phil ... lion-.html

my statement still stands. b0mber has a better chance of enjoying heterosexual sex with a woman than bc does of finding jay wright as the head coach of its basketball team

You and I seem to be on the same page. But, shockingly, we seem to be among the elite few who remember other BC coaching searches.

Is it a good thing or a bad thing that the BC job is one of the best available this off-season?

On one hand, we should be able to get one of the best available coaches. On the other hand, a lack of other openings might make the best coaches decide to stay where they are for another year and hope that better programs open up in 2015.
