Failed at Seton Hall may have been a little harsh, but i wouldn't say he was overly successful either. Never finished better than 5th in BE, rode Eddie Griffin to the 2nd weekend of the tournament in their only NCAA appearance.

Currently, teams scoring below a 925 APR can lose up to 10 percent of their scholarships. Teams can also be subject to penalties for poor academic performance over time.

Teams in this year's field that would be subject to NCAA-imposed sanctions that could keep them from postseason play are: Cal Poly (925), Coastal Carolina (921), North Carolina Central (903), Oklahoma State (928), Providence (915), Texas Southern (900), Connecticut (897) and Oregon (918).

Nice to see Yukon learning their lesson from their last suspension.

I don't think that's what's going on here.

Howland is the kind of guy BC needs to win. Hopefully they put the full court press on him.

Lonergan seems like the logical candidate if Howland doesn't happen. After that, your looking at a weak field: Cluess, Amaker, Hopkins. Maybe you can gauge if Tyndall would work outside the greater South. Since the Daz hire shows age doesn't matter, I would still take a look at Dambrot.

For political reasons, Mike White will get a courtesy "interview."

Agreed. The Globe is busy reporting on the Sox players in danger from the hounds with bees in their mouths so everytime they bark at them they shoot bees at them.

I'm hearing Kevin Mackey or Paul Biancardi.

Seth Davis' top early names:

Tommy Amaker, Mike Hopkins, Derek Kellogg

DavidGordonsFoot {l Wrote}:The only reason I'll hold out hope if they hire Amaker is the fact that he is still only 49 years old. He was 36 when he took the Michigan job, and has 17 years of HC experience, which is insane for a guy still in his 40s. Short of the academic scandal (which extended beyond the basketball team), I can't knock his tenure at Harvard. It is possible that he has learned and adapted since the Michigan disaster.

Funny... I was thinking that a knock on Amaker is that he's already 49.

Ben Howland
Mark Few
Greg Marshall
Mike Lonergan
Jeff Capel

I would love Few but there is no way he is leaving Gonzaga. Major programs have been courting him for a decade now.

So I feel the sentiment here is that Bates is going to make a mediocre hire. Where is that coming from? Is it the definition that anything not Pearl or Howland = mediocre?

I feel like most everyone is happy or at least more happy than not happy with the football hire one year in. Does that give Bates any goodwill in the process here?

It comes from him being employed by BC.
Neither Pearl or Howland would be a mediocre hire... which is why we are landing neither.

I don't think he's going to make a mediocre hire.

I'm expecting good things.

And I'm not even fully on the adaziani train yet.

Lets be real here - master has done everything that could have been expected of him so far.

1. Needed to fire football coach. Did it.
2. Needed a replacement to succeed. Got him.
3. Needed to fire the basketball coach. Did it.

Non hiring firing related:
Engaged with alums via town halls.
Always willing to speak with people at games, events, etc.
Always responsive to emails / feedback.

And FWIW, now former players (recent grads) speak incredibly highly of him.

this

by the way, i predict sgt slaughter part ii. a "non-flashy" name gets announced and the boo birds sing from their coop for a few months until the new guys proves to be less shitty than initial expectations. then, by the end of the season all agree that we could have probably hired someone shittier

If Mike Hoppkins is good enough to be the "coach in waiting" at Cuse then shouldnt BC make a power move & hire him? Write a fat check

Guess I have to spell it out for you.

1. Coach in waiting =/= a good fit for a different program.
2. Coach in waiting at a program where the players don't need to be able to read =/= good fit for BC
3. Coach in waiting at a program that has it's coach dismiss the notion of sexual assault of minors and the program subsequently doesn't say a word about it =/= good fit for BC

Biancardi getting floated is someone throwing him a favor. If BC wouldn't go after Pearl because of an illegal bbq, what do you think would happen once Biancardi's Ohio State dirty work floated up. Remember HBO had recruits telling Bryant Gumble that Biancardi was in charge of cash and changing grades.

I still fear Amaker. If we are going on just recruiting I would rather have Cooley.

I saw Andy Katz say this, but I did not agree with his justification. He said that Harvard is a top 2-3 job in the Ivy and wouldn't make sense for Amaker to take a bottom-half job in the ACC. If this were true, coaches would never make the jump from mid-majors.
