Maybe this was Bates' plan all along - lower expectations, then bring in a name we'll celebrate only because he's NOT Jim Christian.

Anthony Grant would be a ton of fun. I have no real idea if he's a good coach or not.

Pat Chambers would be miserable but-for that he's not Jim Christian, so I'm in!

I've always had a soft spot for Anthony Grant.

No clue on Chambers

eepstein0 hated Al Skinner
eepstein0 loved the choice of Steve Donahue to replace Al Skinner
eepstein0 hates the choice of Jim Christian to replace Steve Donahue

That's enough reason for me to give Christian a chance.

Wait... did someone say Anthony Grant??? As in the head coach at BAMA! ??? Oh yeah... BC is going to poach the SEC. I think Calipari is more likely... what, given his ties to the area and all.

The press conference for this is going to be spectacular. I honestly can't wait to hear/read the spin that's going to be put on this, followed by all the previously tight lipped folks inside Yawkey blasting Christian, Bates and the process that will inevitably make its way here and to EA and ATL.

I didn't think we'd get our top choices, like Howland, Jay Wright or Steve Lappas, but I also didn't expect a couch that we feel this negatively about.

I mentioned Chambers last week. He would be okay, major conference, inherited a "bear" cupboard, northeast ties from being at BU and he's from the Jay Wright coaching tree.

don't knock the couch until you've sat on it, snacked on it, and gotten an OTPHJ from a real live girl on it.

I haven't been this bummed since BC extended Spaz.

I don't know what I am missing. I go back to BC once or twice a year and find it to be just a purely remarkable place. I feel smarter, richer, more special the minute I walk on the campus. And I am a discriminating asshole when necessary. I would happily bash the place if necessary. But instead, I find a stunning campus, a valuable diploma, access to a great city, a safe environment, a great sports conference, a proud history of hard won success, a moral pulse - the total package.

I have been to damn near every noteworthy university in the nation, and honestly believe BC has the nuts and bolts (see prior sentence) to hang with all of them (except for my big boner for Stanford, which is the only school for which I'd contemplating trading diplomas).

Do the dipshits running the place see it as I do? I guess not. How people in power at BC could greenlight the hiring of Christian is beyond me. This is an absolute atrocity as it relates to a coaching hire, and how it reflects on BC.

Right now, I feel like a chump via my relationship with BC. BC OWES ITS COLLECTIVE FAMILY WAY MORE THAN THIS.

Have some sack if you are a BC Guy and shoot this fucking thing down. Prior to today's leaked "news," not one of you would have pissed on this asshole if he was on fire.

A BC Guy cares about winning... PERIOD. End of fucking story.

Calhoun is an asshole. But, he's a winner. Basically, he's the exact opposite of Don. Personally, I'd be more than OK with it. We'd whore-it-out for a few years, kick the shit on the recruiting trail and then be doing this search In 4 years again (but in a MUCH better position). My only concern is that he's 72 and he'll die before 4 years.

Here's one of my famous predictions... BC will win more and have the program in much better shape 4 years from now than whatever MAC-equivalent, compromised, good for New England, bullshit marin-approved, cheap selection who'll be introduced in 2 weeks. Everyone freaking out over the potential interest is giving a prime example why BC permanently sucks at sports.

Timestamp bitches!

A lot of us were way the fuck wrong on Don (I know I thought he was the perfect man for BC... he was a great fit at BC... except when it came to doing anything remotely related to coaching the basketball team). At this point, when it comes to the bizarre sport of college basketball, I am willing to follow the words of Bobby Knight and just sit back and enjoy it.

i don't believe any of this for a minute

As I'm cleaning out my closet, I might as well bump this post too. What I posted was true. I was willing to give those guys a fair shake (even though I wasn't excited by any of them). Christian's name didn't surface for 4 days. That was when what appeared to be a pragmatic search trying to find the bet BC fit from coaches across the county became something else... finding the best fit for Bates among exclusively clients of Fogler. I probably jinxed the whole process by saying I'd accept any of the names floating around at the time. BC has always found a way to disappoint... even in the absence of expectations.
