How's this for a wild irresponsible conspiracy theory. Someone on the Ohio University board posted Christian's buyout clause:

Image

Maybe (as the omniscient Blauds gum shoed) Bates has agreed with Christian after all, but they're waiting until May to announce it to lower the buyout payment? Leaves us in limbo for a month, saves some money...sounds like BC huh? Also accords with the transfer request from the Ohio recruit.

mark blaudschun @blauds
@JackMcCaffrey Jack: email me blauds@aol.com mark blaudschun

I mean, this is almost surely an attempt to contact Jack McCluskey at ESPNBoston, right?

I haven't followed the ups and downs of Blaudschun the way some have, but how does a guy have a job at a semi-respective publication for as long as he did and have 0 clue on anything? I mean, at least he had an editor, but did they ever think it was a problem when he filed his stories on Ted Williamson and Kevin McHart and Dan Fluty (I admittedly have no idea how old Mark is, how long his tenure in the Boston sportswriting world was, nor what he covered for the Globe when he was there)?

I can see from his email address that Blauds got his first month of 56k dial-up internet free of charge.

Zac Jackson ‏@FSOhioZJackson ·14m
Sources: Ohio coach Jim Christian and Boston College "close" to finalizing deal to make Christian new BC coach. Possibly done later today.

I'm not 90 but, there is this. Lots of hedge words.

Yes. But he graduated, which met the Florida employment requirement. Masiello did not.

Remember the goood ole days when we were able to mock USF for hiring Masiello (and then "settling" for Antigua)? [sniff]

Speaking of USF... would Christian hiring Stan Heath change anyone's mind? It wouldn't for me. But, it could elevate him from "Worst name mentioned for the job" to ahead of Bucknell's David Paulsen to be only the second worst candidate.

I don't believe that Paulsen was ever a candidate. It was assumed that when people were talking about a "coach from bucknell" they were talking about the current coach at Bucknell and not another coach somewhere else who is a Bucknell alum.

There is no doubt that if we hire Christian, we absolutely would have been better off hiring Schmidt. Hell... if you are going the Ohio U route, why not give it to Tim O'Shea?

BTW... from everything that has been out there... not one minority candidate interviewed.

No. Because that didn't happen. You must have predicted something else.

Just to go full clown on this thing, Blauds now says Pat Chambers and Anthony Grant are in the mix.

Maybe this was Bates' plan all along - lower expectations, then bring in a name we'll celebrate only because he's NOT Jim Christian.

Anthony Grant would be a ton of fun. I have no real idea if he's a good coach or not.

Pat Chambers would be miserable but-for that he's not Jim Christian, so I'm in!
