If BC does let Coach D go, Coach Gregg Marshall of the Shockers could be a name to toss around.

BC has as much chance of hiring Gregg Marshall as Donahue has of keeping his job.

There is no chance we are taking Mick Cronin from Cincy (since he was born and raised in Cincinnati and the UC is his alma mater), but he has done a very impressive job wih that program.

BTW... hopefully Bates isn't watching the game on TV. If he is, you have to assume that Bates was reminded how much he liked what the in-studio host did at Bowling Green.

A name that has popped up is Steve Massielo from Manhattan College. Came off of Rick Pitino's staff at Louisville. Supposedly was the closer for Pitino and responsible for landing a lot of the talent for the national championship team. Been at Manhattan for three seasons. First year took a six win team the previous year and turned it into a 20 game winner and missed the NCAAs after losing a last second tip in against Iona. Played a freshman-laden team last year that went .500 in conference and won the MAAC this year with 25 wins as his freshman class matured. Pitino has compared him very favorably to Billy Donovan.

Drawbacks. Manhattan coaches have tended to flop or at least underachieve when they have moved on to bigger programs--see Gonzales, Bobby, Fraschilla, Fran and Lappas, Steve. Part of this is that Manhattan occupies a pretty sweet position in the MAAC in that they are sitting on pretty fertile recruiting ground and they are paired against teams that are hard sells (If you are a mid-major talent coming out of the five boroughs you are a hell of a lot more likely to stay in Riverdale rather than head up to Buffalo or Albany to play for Niagara, Canisius or Siena or even bigger programs that are truly mid-majors like a St. Bonnies or a Duquense, etc.). I have heard it said that if you are a good recruiter at Manhattan you should be able to land A-10 level talent pretty easily which is a huge competitive advanatage against the rest of the league.

Also, the guy is an Italian. With apologies to the Dazzler, most Italians aren't qualified to do anything more than make pizzas. I can say that because I went to Duchie's wedding and I have Godchildren that are half-wop.

Dino Gaudio. Had a decent 3 year run at an ACC program. Long-time Skip Prosser assistant at both Xavier and Wake. Thoughts?

When I saw Howland at the CofI game the other night he looks closer to 80 than 56. Probably doesn't mean anything.

Just hire PEARL! He can coach, recruit and sell tickets. He is a BC alum, Sharon native and he is the best available coach for this program. The long time season ticket holders deserve Pearl!

If Bates wants Pearl, he better move fast - Auburn already fired their coach.

Bates will wait to fire Don after the ACCT. Selection Sunday most likely. It will make absolutely no headlines. Regardless, BC is not hiring Pearl.

People might as well give up on this Pearl thing. Is it the right move? Sure. Is there any chance the BOT or Leahy signs off on it? I seriously doubt it

Is it possible Eddie Jordan got caught up in mid-term craziness as he is trying to complete his degree and told the team to just do whatever because he needed to study? :ace

If he takes the job prior to there being any announcement on Donahue (assuming Pearl and Bates never spoke), then BC was never getting Pearl in the first place.

or he poked around and we said we hadn't made a decision.

or he poked around and we said no.

As much as I like to be optimistic about these things, sadly, you are most likely correct.

The idea that BC could never land Bruce Pearl is borderline retarded. The idea that BC would never do what needed to be done to land a real coach, however, is not.

Ignoring the second half of your sentence, which is true, the first half is stupid.

Yes. The fact that Pearl has accepted the job at Auburn screams to me that the clowns running the circus show at BC probably never considered him. Disgustiad.

haven't you been reading the papers blogs (which are totally press as evidenced by the press passes that blog boy receives)? bc is small time and irrelevant. if there's one thing that the orange one will never become, it's small time or irrelevant

Pearl would accept the BC job if it was the best offer he had. However, if Pearl had offers from both BC and Auburn, Pearl would not pick BC. He is who he is and he's the type of guy who would much rather not deal with ANY administrative hurtles (something the Ess Eee See is well known for). There are a lot of reasons why Pearl would have been perfect for BC. But, his fast-and-loose nature simply could never last long at Chestnut Hill.

Please raise your hand if you honestly believed Bruce Pearl had a chance of receiving an offer to be the head coach at Boston College next year.
