Babic (6'5"/196 cm) has a few highlight videos on YouTube. He has a feathery jumper with exceptional range and a quick release, handles the ball well for his size, looks like a good passer, and seems to be a fairly strong finisher. The questions, as usual, are (a) how athletic is he and (b) can he put on weight/muscle. He's relatively old for 2014 (b. 4/17/95), so it's unclear how much upside he has -- some people fill out late, after they finish their vertical growth. I think that, if Babic could handle the purely physical demands, he'd probably be at least a solid 2-guard and possibly more.

Perry Central forward Justin Johnson should be one of the top basketball players in the state of Kentucky next season. On Tuesday, he took the first step toward making a college decision.

Johnson — who excelled this summer with the Kentucky Travelers — narrowed his list of schools to Auburn, Boston College, Miami (Ohio), Providence and Western Kentucky. The 6-foot-6 forward said all five of those programs have offered, and he plans to take official visits to every school on his list.

Auburn was the latest school to extend an offer, which Johnson said came two days ago. The Class of 2014 prospect broke down his five finalists in an interview with the Herald-Leader on Tuesday night.

Auburn: “They watched me at Peach Jam and they liked me a lot. It’s the SEC, which would be a good conference to play in. I like the way their coaches do things. They call and keep in touch.”

Providence: “Coach (Ed) Cooley is a great guy. … He’s actually interacted with my whole family. My parents check in with him, he’s talked to my brother. I like him a lot. He does a great job recruiting. I barely talk to the assistants there. He does it all, and he just calls me. And I think that I would fit well in his system. (Class of 2014 star) Jalen Lindsey went there — a big-time prospect.”

Boston College: “(Former Trinity star) Darryl Hicks is there, for one. Me and Darryl are very good friends. And they’ve been in the picture for a while. They offered early. You get to play in the ACC. You get to go into Cameron (Indoor Stadium), you get to go to North Carolina. You get to go to places that you’d probably never get a chance to play in. Coach (Steve) Donahue and (assistant) coach (Nat) Graham both have done a really good job calling, checking in and staying in touch. Everybody says the campus is unbelievable, so I can’t wait to get up and see everything.”

Miami (Ohio): “They’ve got some crazy fans. They just blow my Twitter up. One of my best friends — Zach McCormick — just committed there. He was my roommate all summer (with the Travelers). They’re building a really good program up there and I just like everything they’re doing. Coach (John) Cooper, at my position he’s coached a few pros. I think that would be a really good fit for me.”

Western Kentucky: “Western is Western. They’ve been in there since day one. They’ve stayed on me hard. … It’s just like home there. I’ve been there so many times and they treat me really well there. I think it’s a special program. They’ve made it known the way they feel about me.”

Coaches from Western Kentucky will do an in-home visit with Johnson and his family on Sept. 9. Johnson also pointed out that another friend and former Travelers teammate — Rob Marberry — committed to Western on Tuesday.

Johnson hopes to have dates scheduled for all five official visits sometime in the next week or so.

He isn’t positive that he’ll have a college decision in time for the November signing period, but he does want to get a good handle on his recruitment so he can concentrate fully on his senior season at Perry Central.

Johnson also doesn’t plan to stray from his five finalists when it comes time to make a decision, no matter what other schools come calling.

“This is my top five and I’m going to be loyal to these guys,” he said. “They’ve done a really good job recruiting me and they’ve worked hard to get into my top five. I just don’t think it’s fair to let anyone else in right now.”

My guess is he's the backup plan to Uhl, however this is based off pure speculation.

Hoff mentioned in an article today that Thomas Welsh, a 4 star on ESPN, is being pursued by BC. The Staff feels they have a good shot to get an official visit from him. Also, BC is pursuing David Wacker, Justin Johnson (known), and Sam Dingba (remember him?) along with Dom Uhl. Uhl is still target #1.

Welsh is another 7 footer. He is a Cali kid. Offers from Stanford, USC, Portland, Cal, Arizona State, Notre Dame, Colorado, UCLA, Gonzaga, Rice, St. Louis, Pacific, San Francisco.

6'10 C David Wacker (TX) is another big man. Other offers from SMU, Colorado, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Boise State, Fresno State, Western Kentucky, Indiana State and more mid majors

BC has a great shot at Justin Johnson but he is going to visit every school in his top 5.

I heard BC wasn't recruiting Dingba hard any more. He has no other high major offers and I don't even know if he has one from BC.

6'8 PF Dominique Uhl has BC and Iowa as his leaders on 247. He is visiting BC September 5th or 6th. Other offers from Maryland, Temple, Penn State, Minnesota, Miami, FIU, George Mason, Manhattan, Colgate, UNH

if you're taking suggestions, i'd like to offer the following recruits...

a strong 4 in the vein of danya abrams - hugh jass
that kid with the ability to sneak past defenses and drop bombs - al kida
defensive specialist that can stick to any ball handler like glue - val crow
the guard that's sure to get the offense tuned up and running smooth - val voleen
and lastly, i'm not sure about the prospect that we're hoping can replace clifford in case of additional injuries - colin sick

@TheRecruitScoop Boston College has offered 2015 La Costa Canyon (CA) SG Brady Twombly, his coach announced.

ESPN gives him hefty praise for a 2 star:
Strengths:
Simply put, Twombly is a beast. He plays the game with maximum energy at both ends. Whether it's attacking the rim and finishing through contact or getting a chase-down block, Twombly is about winning basketball. He can fill the lane in transition and knock down the 3-point shot or utilize the pump-fake and take it hard to the hole.
Weaknesses:
Twombly needs to continue to improve his ball handling while under pressure. In addition, his jump shot is decent, but it will need to get more consistent going forward.
Bottom Line:
Twombly is physically strong already, thus it will be interesting to see where his frame goes in terms of a position at the next level.

Losing Chukwu to Providence is an embarrassment; if Cooley lands Abu and/or Terrell, 2014 recruiting will be a huge embarrassment. If Cooley is so much better than Donahue as a recruiter that he can get blue chip recruits in spite of being a lousy X's and O's coach, Donahue has to hire another top recruiter like Jones (and Bates has to come up with the money for him to do it) if he expects to keep his BC job. Recruiting in California is not going to get the job done.

While the Joe Jones thing was an unnecessary homage to HJS, the overall point is a valid one.

Providence offered Chukwu first. Everyone else (including BC) waited a long time because he was seen as a big project. This isn't an embarrassment

Cooley still needs to prove he can win with his top recruits. Who the fuck cares where The Don gets his recruits as long as they get the job done? and so far his recruits have beat Cooley's and stayed eligible. The Don needs to prove he can win this year with his average recruits and if he does then people should then back off on his recruiting. I think the Don needs to step up his recruiting in New England by a lot but every time we lose out on a recruit people on this board act as though he was destined for BC from day one and it's a terrible upset when he goes to Syracuse or Providence.

The BC vs Providence game will be a fun one to watch every year.

Exactly. It's like people come to the hoops board and lose their memories. BC has never been relevant in New England. Ever.

Duke Insider Andrew Slater predicted that 2014 NJ PF Dominique Uhl will commit to BC on 247 a couple days ago. He is 12/13 on his other predictions (92.3%)

He's visiting BC September 6th and Iowa and Temple later that month

Other offers from Miami, Maryland, Penn State, Minnesota, Northwestern

Interesting to consider that, having recruited a Swede with Philadelphia family roots, we may now add a New Jersey German - the new reality of global hoop. Uhl would by all reports be a valuable get (who, incidentally, would fill the last available scholarship slot; I have yet to see where any other opening for 2014 is going to come from). Recruiting successfully from talent-rich New Jersey would also be a positive sign for the future.

With 1 spot for 2014 (although everyone believes there will be another opening) here are the most likely:

1. 3* Justin Johnson (we are in his top 5)
2. 3.5* Dominique Uhl (he is taking an official visit Sept 6th and we are most likely in his top 3)
3.3* Matt Cimino (we are considered to be his favorite or at least in top 3)
4. 4* Marial Shayok (ESPN recruiter predicted we would nab him)

I have no idea how this will play out. Another scholarship would be tremendously valuable

1. 3* Justin Johnson (we are in his top 5)
2. 3.5* Dominique Uhl (he is taking an official visit Sept 6th and we are most likely in his top 3)
3.3* Matt Cimino (we are considered to be his favorite or at least in top 3)
4. 4* Marial Shayok (ESPN recruiter predicted we would nab him)

I have no idea how this will play out. Another scholarship would be tremendously valuable

If another 2014 slot doesn't open very soon, I don't see where it's going to come from. Anyone from 2015 transferring with only one year left is a near-impossibility, and Donahue probably wouldn't be allowed to dump someone just to open up a scholarship slot.

This. Have to say a class of Uhl and Shayok would be pretty great if it happened.
