It's a process.

Step one is actually hiring competent coaches, at least recruiters.
Step two is actually being involved with highly talented recruits.
Step three is making said highly talented recruits final lists.
Step four is actually landing some highly talented recruits.
Step five is turning recruiting results into actual results.
Step six is repeat each year.

Just because we haven't landed any yet doesn't mean progress isn't already being made. Not that it was hard to make progress on Mr. Nice Guy, but this is a significant step forward.

Fact is, last coaching staff struck out being bumbling jackoffs. This staff may strike out, but it won't be due to their efforts. Results don't define effort, they define results.

If we can atleast land one of those 4 top targets i'll be happy as fuck considering the shitshow of recruiting has been the last couple of years. Mitchell and Sharma are still longshots of getting but as of right it looks like we are the team to beat for Mann and Falzon. Haven't seen anything all summer if we are still going after Miller, is the staff still even going after him?

I don't think we can be considered long shots anymore with Mitchell. Certainly not favorites, but when the kid himself names you one of the final 5, no more longshots IMO.

But I guess that is just semantics. Cause if we have the worst odds of the five, you could call that the long shot.....so...yep.

i don't see how you could possibly declare a redshirt based on a player's supposed top 5 list. i'd think unde the rules he would at least have to sign an loi before you could declare his redshirt

Okay, thanks for the clarification. I will look forward to their subsequent signing and immediate redshirt. W3ird0

No surprises - all three schools have been frequently and prominently mentioned in connection with Sharma (sometimes by Sharma himself). Unless some elite program decides to make a serious late run at him, that is probably a de facto final list. My initial guess is that Stanford is the more formidable competitor because of its athletics/academics/alumni mix, but I could be wrong - Bo Ryan has invested a lot of effort in recruiting Sharma.

Bruce Brown (2016 SG, 6'3", 185, Vermont Academy) is a rising junior, so right now he's somewhat overshadowed by the 2015 players entering their last prep year and ripe to commit. Even so, he's been having a good 2014 so far, with his national buzz and his offer list both growing. He's clearly established with the major online sources (ESPN ***** - #30, Rivals **** - #53, Scout **** - #52), but he still seems to have some upside there; he gets praise for his high-energy play at both ends, and for his combination of athleticism and toughness (former football player). His offer list is already quite sizeable, although the whales are so far holding back.

By my best reckoning, Brown's present offer list is:

Arizona State
Auburn
BC
Iowa State
Manhattan
Massachusetts
Miami
Michigan
Minnesota
Providence
Rhode Island
Texas Tech
Tulsa
Virginia Commonwealth
Virginia Tech
Wake Forest
Xavier

It's a pretty considerable offer list for the summer before junior year, but still likely to increase in both quantity and quality.

Another entry in Terance Mann's always entertaining HoopDreamsMag Diary.

"What's up y'all it's Terance, I just recently made a big decision in my college recruitment and cut it to only 6 schools that I am interested. Bc, Marquette , Florida state, Arizona state , Indiana , & URI. The way I went about picking these schools was sitting down alone and writing all the schools down that were recruiting me at the time.. Then picking out what I want in a school,.. Size , distance, impact etc. Then i looked It over with my mom as soon as I was done and she thought that those six schools were best for me also. Cutting schools out isn't an easy thing to do, I appreciate all coaches who took their time to recruit me, I met some great people during the process. That's a day in the life of me & how I made my list"

Mann/Falzon - BC
Sharma/Miller - Wisconsin
Mitchell - Louisville

Shots in the dark here, but seems right.

Getting Mann and Falzon would immediately make 2015 a contender for the best recruiting class in BC history. BC seems to be in the lead for both of them, but at the same time your suggestion seems wildly optimistic; how often has BC gotten two top-100 players in one year? Even if (a gigantic "if") they commit verbally, I'll be (metaphorically) holding my breath until signing day in November.

I would be thrilled if we were to land Mann and Falzon. That being said, we'd still have 5 (likely 6) additional spots available for the 2015 class. I just fear that the staff is not casting a wide enough net for top prospects. It would be nice if a bunch of elite players like the above were to all commit together because we certainly have the space for them to make an immediate impact on the court.

It is worth noting that although we may have better recruiters on this staff than the previous one, it means nothing unless a prospect actually commits. After all, we were #3 on Alex Murphy's list under Donahue.

It's heartening to encounter a kindred spirit; more than most other competitions, recruiting is exclusively about successful results. Only in odd situations like Alex Murphy and Florida is there any benefit in being #2 rather than #200. One may illustrate this from ancient history: BC was #2 on Patrick Ewing's list, and that plus the prevailing price in cash would have procured a cup of coffee.

I thought Josh Southern and Rakim Sanders were both top 100? Were they in the same recruiting class?

BC was #3 on Alex Murphy's list the same way that I was #3 on Adrianna Lima's list. Stop with this shit. We have big boy recruiters now.

It seems that the staff is doing a great job getting in with players that Don would have loved to have.
