For all the sky is falling talk, this class shaped up to be pretty nice considering the state of the program. It's just the joke of the recruiting effort by Donahue which is the problem.

Athletic for 6'2, scorer's mentality.

The second video is him apparently scoring 40 in the 2nd half, with 11 rebounds and some steals. The competition looks... well... But still

Strengths:
Barnes-Thompkins is a physical combo-guard who affects the game with his scoring instincts. He has a strong upper-torso with good length (long arms) and his athleticism is solid. He can knock down the 3-point shot in transition and his stroke looks relatively smooth. He has solid quickness, but he gets by his defender mostly with crafty drives (changes speeds) and utilizing his strength. He plays hard at both ends and appears to be about winning.

Weaknesses:
Barnes-Thompkins needs to continue to improve his all-around game. In the half-court implementing more half-court skills (pick-and-roll, etc.) and locating open shooters off the bounce will improve his game.

Bottom Line:
Barnes-Thompkins is a solid looking combo-guard who projects well to the Division I level. If he continues to improve his all-around skill-set and savvy, he will garner D-I interest.

It took a minute of watching that video to see he is a high major player. He dropped 32 on Findlay Prep.

I'm a little curious as to why a kid from Arizona doesn't have more Pac12 interest but good work by the staff here.

We still need to find a experienced PG for next year.

whole lot more athletic in the next couple of years. love the schools that were recruiting him before sju and after. all these
young guys are going to have opportunities to take a lot of shots.
diallo now is the key to the team, he is the wildcard, if he can develop then we have a big man

I'm not high on JC, never was. BUT I will acknowledge good job by the staff landing Barnes-Thompkins. Looks like he can play the point which is a huge need. Land Andre Adams and I will be extremely happy.

We still have FIVE scholarship openings for the 2015-2016 season. And two of our existing schollies were out all of last year. Happy Clifford is back, he'll have an important role.

The European player is obviously a wild card, I have no idea how his game will translate to a high D1 program, but I like them taking a chance on him, especially when they lack players.

Sammy Barnes-Thompkins looks like a shooter to me, he doesn't have the freak athleticism of an ACC recruit, but if his shooting is consistent he could be a good rotational player. He'll have to be a crafty player, I doubt he'll be a star he looks kinda like a slower, albeit bigger Tyrese Rice type, but without that quickness it could be tough for him to be more than a spot up shooter. I don't predict that he'll bring the program back to prominence but he's definitely better than the nothing they have in his roster spot right now.

1. A 5'3" 285 lb shooting guard who lit up the Lewiston, ME Beer League;

2. A Dennis Rodman look alike from Guam who first committed to Sweetbriar, and then when it closed, is torn between BC and the U of Pyongyang.

Agree on the height. This kid isn't playing the 4 in the ACC. After this year your only big will be Diallo, that isn't going to work.

I'm really more worried about them bringing in talented players first and foremost, which unfortunately the jury is still out on that. I definitely don't want them grabbing the next 6'9" they see just because it's a desperate need even though that kid would have trouble getting minutes at BU. Right now there are really openings at every position for any ACC level players, who are we expecting will be the leading scorer next year?

I could tell from Day 1 that almost all of that Donahue class had no chance to play at this level. You could tell Anderson and Heckmann had some ability, the rest were losing by 30+ to Holy Cross, which told me all I needed to know. He did well with Hanlan and Rahon but the rest were so bad we'd lose every close game.

At least with this current group of recruits, there are multiple P5 or high level (Witchita St, Creighton, etc.) schools who we out recruited. Even with Robinson, Clemson was his other finalist. The only exception is the European kid and those are always wild cards. They may not win tons of games, but you'll be able to tell early on whether these kids have the talent to compete in the ACC.

You can't get away with two bigs when you have to play UNC and Pitt every year, sometimes twice.
