“We’ve had a great deal of interest,” commissioner John Swofford said Wednesday at the league’s preseason media function. “I think you’d expect that in any circumstances, but particularly with a growing league .. and the fact that now we’ll be in nine contiguous states up and down the Eastern seaboard, and with Notre Dame joining.”

I had to think about that for a second. I realized if you loop around Rutgers NJ and Connecticut, he's right and also funny in a way.

Don't you mean Boston didn't bid? And why would they? There were attendance problems in Atlanta last year, it would only be worse up here.

Holding it in Miami sounds nice due to the time of year, but that would be another attendance disaster because of how far it is from most ACC fans.

Orlando is an SEC city. There won't be much interest.

DC would probably draw better than most of the sites outside North Carolina and is a place I would want to visit as an out-of-town fan. The Verizon Center is right in the middle of everything in downtown DC.

I would love for the tournament to be in DC.

I'll be there no matter where they hold it. Greensboro blows. I had to lie to a reporter last time we were there about how wonderful it was

Holding the tournament in DC might also help the attendance problem. DC is in ACC territory, centrally positioned among the present and future conference members, and has a lot of basketball fans who might attend if the schools don't sell out. It's also appealing as a major national destination -- fans could combine basketball and tourism, especially given the Verizon Center's downtown location.

Do you think part of Pittsburgh's pitch was it's proximity to Ampipe?

Is there anything going on in that area? When you look at a map, it looks like the Coliseum abuts an industrial zone on one side and residences on the other.

No it just plain awful. There isn't even much in Downtown.
