Damn, he's pretty polished. He's already better than half of the centers in the NBA.

He never said his choice was going to shock the world. The haircut was the big surprise. You weren't impressed?!?!?

I thought it was shocking that he used the same Lebron line of "bringing his talents" somewhere.

I'd like to suggest that people not console themselves with the delusion that Calipari lures his superstar recruits with outright bribery; Kentucky has so many enemies that the roof would have fallen on them long before now if they were that crude in their recruiting methods (at least as far as money goes; they can get away with offering wives). Kentucky's recruiting pitch is certainly laced with money, but it's coming out of NBA owners' pockets. The essentials of Kentucky recruiting are: (1) the promise of one-and-done (or maybe two-and-done) NBA riches; (2) Calipari's proven coaching ability to increase those riches by adding to the NBA market value of his players; (3) the grotesque and hysterical adulation provided by the program's Big Blue Nation fan base. It may boil down to implicit bribery with someone else's money, but it works and it's hard to see how the NCAA can do anything about it -- teflon-coated corruption through gaming the system (which Calipari seems to be even better at than he is at coaching).

Yes, the NCAA will never be able to take any action against Calipari. I am sure he will vacate his job at Kentucky with a sterling record.

NCAA asking questions about Nerlens Noel
By Dan Ventura
Wednesday, May 9, 2012 - Updated 3 minutes ago

The NCAA paid a visit to Everett High yesterday to investigate former Crimson Tide player Nerlens Noel, the highly touted 6-foot-10 center who recently committed to Kentucky.

Two members of their enforcement team, Cindi Merrill and Frank Smith, met with Everett High principal Louis Baldi and football coach/athletic director John DiBiaso for over an hour. While details of the meetings were not divulged, it is believed the areas targeted in the meeting revolved around Noel’s associates as well as classes he took at Everett.

“We were told not to say anything,” DiBiaso said. “They did not want us to disclose anything that was discussed.”

It was later learned that two of those associates who have caught the eye of the NCAA are Chris Driscoll and Errol Randolph.

Driscoll was a former BABC employee who left the organization on bad terms. Head coach and program founder Leo Papile later called him “the worst guy I’ve ever dealt with in all my years of doing this.”

Randolph was formerly employed by the Everett school system and was very close to the Noel family. Older brother Jimmy Noel is a starting defensive back at Boston College, while middle brother Rodman Noel is a sophomore linebacker at NC State.

Noel spent his first two seasons at Everett before transferring to Tilton to repeat his sophomore year. Earlier this season, Noel decided to reclassify so that he could graduate in June of this year. His decision to commit to Kentucky over Syracuse and Georgetown was televised live by ESPN-U.

Tilton basketball coach Marcus O’Neil told the Herald that the NCAA had not contacted the school, but would not surprised if that would happen. Another person of interest, Noel’s AAU coach, Papile, said he also had not received a call from the NCAA.

If that's not an indictment, I don't know what is.

Watched ESPN's all-access Kentucky last night (ESPN doesn't do as good of a job as HBO but it isn't bad). Two (2) things stood out to me

1) Everytime Calipari spoke I wanted to throw a bottle through my tv
b) didn't know he travels to recruits on a private jet

I almost fell off my rocker after reading this...

May 12, 2012

"It's rare, in this day and age, to be able to keep a staff together that has helped produce a national championship and back-to-back Final Four runs," Barnhart said. "We want to show them how appreciative we are of their hard work and dedication and how much they mean to this program."

Calipari will receive $5.2 million annually from endorsements, base salary and retention bonuses for each of the next six years. The deal increases to $5.3 million in 2018-19. He can also earn up to $850,000 a year in performance bonuses.

Assistant coaches Orlando Antigua (two-year extension), Kenny Payne (three years) and John Robic (two years) will have base salaries ranging from $250,000 to $350,000 before incentives. Their contracts have a combined guaranteed value of $2.15 million.

Will Kentucky be the first National Champ to be stripped of the title?

BC would be ranked in the Top 15 if we had him. He is precisely the type of player that would complete this team. Last night was unfortunate as (a) it doesn't seem likely that he will be able to go to the NBA as soon as he hoped and (b) he may now be doomed to living off a Kentucky diploma. I really hope that guy's wife was Jodi Arias in the sack.

He'll still declare for June's draft, still be a top 3 pick, and will still make $7 million minimum even if he never sees the floor.

I agree with that... sick athlete. Way too skin and not nearly skilled enough to have a major impact in the NBA.
