WEEI notebook

Postby b0mberMan on Thu Jan 19, 2012 3:02 pm

Don's pretty candid in here, but positive overall. I like it.

“I would like the truth serum in both [Clifford and Anderson] to say how patient I’ve been. I appreciate that they did that. I think more like pushing them, in particular Ryan, because I think he has a lot of talent. Ryan plays a little like a high school kid sometimes — and I don’t mean that in a bad way. I think he just plays with a pace that he’s got to increase it. I just think he’s got a chance to be really, really good. He’s got great IQ, he’s going to be a really strong kid. The energy and the pedal to the metal, just the sense of urgency has got to get better. So, if anybody had a right to say coach is pushing his patience, it’s him."

Yeah, good stuff...I know for a while I felt like, although he was right to be exhibiting patience, he might have been a little to laid back...Apparently that has not been the case.

Pick your spots, and push the right buttons without hitting the "off" switch...

Really liked the piece. Also like that it sounds that the players respect him and are buying in to what he's saying.

Clifford’s conditioning impressed Donahue, who said the 245-pounder runs close to a 5-minute mile. Clifford’s main focus is developing upper-body strength, as Donahue wants the center to add 20-25 pounds.

This is really good news that they have plans for Clifford to get stronger. If he gains that much weight without losing a step, there is no doubt in my mind that he can't turn into an All-ACC type of player down the road. Also I would like to see the same happen to Anderson.
