I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact we had a 29 year old freshman quarterback! What is this, some kind of wacky sitcom world? What's next, a talking banana? (laughs)

A cursory trip around google seems to suggest that trouble has followed him, but he's never been pinned down as specifically guilty...which could be interpreted positively depending how you want to look at it!

Maybe they should tape games from the wrong spot on the sidelines and let a little air out of the balls.

With more investigation I think we are almost certainly talking about younger Jarvis here. Older Jarvis isn't coaching in the EYBL and younger Jarvis is. Here's an article from last April as well:

Report: Mike Jarvis II talks to Boston College
April 8, 2014|By Dieter Kurtenbach | Sun Sentinel
After Mike Jarvis resigned as FAU's men's basketball coach, he promised that his efforts would be spent on helping his son, associate head coach Mike Jarvis II — Deuce — find a top-flight coaching job.

According to the Boston Globe, that job might be at Boston College.

The Globe reported Monday that Jarvis II has talked with new Boston College coach Jim Christian about joining his staff as an assistant.

The elder Jarvis is a Massachusetts native and spent the first 23 years of his career coaching in the area, first as an assistant at Boston University and Harvard and later as a head coach at Rindge and Latin High School and BU.

Jarvis II is a BU alum and a former Duke assistant coach.

“It would be a dream come true for me to be able to come back to Boston and work at Boston College,’’ Jarvis II told the Globe.

If this is the case, I just want everyone to be clear that we are also talking about someone who is currently Directory of Sales & Marketing for a company that makes memory foam.

Preston Murphy was working for Stop and Shop the first time BC hired him. I am really sorry to see him go, I thought he was underrated as a recruiter. I think Jarvis, if his father helps, should be huge in bridging gaps with the local community. When the dad was at BU in the 80s his team was mostly local kids, so I hope this will go a long way to have Boston's best players at least considering BC, and hopefully that will be his first assignment.

Jarvis I (ship has sailed). Jarvis II (nobody). Big time pass. Hire someone who has the keys to unlocking the crazy amount of D1 talent in New England who currently won't even look at BC.

Short of hiring a local AAU coach (and BC should not do this), I'm not sure who you can hire to help with that. Jarvis II isn't a great option, he would be in way over his head.

As long as the person is young, black and has a history as a strong recruiter, I could care less if they have a connection to NE or not. Even if BC were good the local kids aren't going to BC.

JC is going to struggle to make this hire due to all the talking about his inability to close behind the scenes. Paying $500K will help.

Not a good situation at all.

longdistanceeagle {l Wrote}:The reason Preston Murphy left was the high cost of living in the Boston area. He has 3 young boys and now his wife no longer has to work and can be home with their children. Omaha is a lot cheaper than Boston. There was nothing else to his leaving.

For the record Murphy was making more than $250K so I heard anyway.

Of all the ridiculous things I've read on EO this is Top 10. I am going to assume he is smarty enough to not leave because of that reason

Did anyone ever get confirmation on this? This still seems as insane as it sounded when I read it the first time

does mike Jarvis III retweeting that we got the Latvian kid confirm that he is going to be our new assistant coach?

i assume this means that carlton will be in chestnut hill next year bringing lackluster recruits but a revived verve to the man in the mascot costume

It really shouldn't take this long to hire an assistant coach.

It will be done by next week, possibly even the end of this one. He has head coaching experience in the highest levels.

i assume its because jimmy mac can't close on coaches much like he can't close on recruits.

however, does this mean that carlton is really not a part of the staff yet? i thought that was a done-deal

Quoting this so it can't be edited away if it's not true. Would be great if it is true.

And it shouldn't take this long because we're essentially functioning at sub-100% recruiting capacity at a time when recruiting is the most important part of the staff's job and have been for weeks... Roonie's favorite program lost an assistant and had a new one in about a week.

Lads, ye miss the point.

The reason for the delay in filling the asst. coach spot left open by the Murphy move to Creighton is that the position is in such demand nationally that the office is inundated with applications.

The USPS has seen its delivery trucks to Conte break down daily from overweight, all attributable to those applications.

But rest assured: there should be little doubt that the staff will be complete before we win a conference title.

My least favorite part is the windup. "Lads ..." etc. It makes my eyes and brain hurt for another human being to fail so awkwardly at presenting his point while obviously thinking he sounds clever and funny.

this aliass smacks way more of 81 than moj.

sadly, i don't think it's either. i think it's just some old guy that sucks but thinks he doesn't suck which makes him suck even more. i bet he buys all his golf clubs used and disowns all his children that express an interest in the culinary arts

I wasn't speaking of style but content. The constant sarcastic negativity. He lacks the execution and panache of hjs, which is why his style is reminiscent of 81

Don't y'all see how desperate - and pathetic - you appear by taking comfort in hiring a twice-failed coach as an assistant?

BC hoops have been DEAD since Al was canned.

We have become an embarrassment, with the nation seeing all those empty seats at Conte, with two co-captains bailing for better programs, with others leaving for other schools and situations, with top talent shunning us, and with our lock on the bottom of ACC standings.

If you want to see good college hoops in town, go watch Bill Coen's constantly well-coached and over-achieving teams at Northeastern, or venture across the Charles to see Harvard.

BC should drop men's hoops - at least until we get a CEO who can distinguish a basketball from a snowball.
