Hanlan wasn't going to improve the levels of bad they were going to be next year. He was just going to take most of the shots.

Yeah, I anticipate high-volume first option Garland Owens will be similarly effective.

much like moj, your spirit of posting confuses me in general.

are you excited bc is going to bad at basketball next year (because it gives you something to consistently complain about for a few months) or are you saddened by it (even though your consistent complaints about the badness of bc basketball will seem to include a little bit of joy about your ability to complain)?

Since I go to all the games sad. It wasn't fun to watch last year

This. They were a fringe NIT squad with him. They won't hit double digit wins without him.

The players are better, but this is going to look like Donahue Year 2 with some awesome 30 point losses mixed in

The best players on that team aren't on campus yet. Regardless, Hanlan chucking doesn't make them a better team.

Point is that they can't be much worse than they were during his tenure as the alleged point guard.

Of course they could. As currently constructed, BC wins 1 ACC game and will struggle OOC.

And with him they went 16-17, 8-24 and 13-19. I'll miss those stellar years.

Point is that they are going to stink next year regardless. No need for Hanlan to take all of the shots in the process. I'd rather watch the new guys struggle because they are inexperienced than the old guys because they just aren't that good.

Chad Ford's commentary:

Olivier Hanlan, SG, Jr., Boston College
Hanlan's decision is an interesting one. He's unlikely to be drafted in the first round but given his age (22) and a strong junior season, his draft stock may be as high as it's going to get. Hanlan is a bit of a 'tweener. He's an undersized shooting guard without the elite athleticism that could make up the difference. Some scouts think he might be able to play the point in the NBA. If he can convince scouts, his stock rises considerably.

We currently have 8 scholarship players for next year, 5 of whom have never played college basketball and 2 of whom are coming off of season-ending knee injuries. Who's ready for the Pornopig to play 20 minutes at Cameron Indoor?

I hope Hanlan comes back. This is not the NBA... if you suck, it's not "high draft pick." It's the opposite. The more you suck, the further you fade into obscurity and the less talented the players that arrive on campus. I would also like to see the new guys learn some offensive aggression from just being around him. Plus, this can be an NIT team with him on the roster. Let's not make the Donahue mistake; we need to teach our new guys how to win, and give them confidence.

You're so absurd. He attempted 15 shots a game this year. He can take 16-18 shots a game next year and provide a legitimate scoring option that takes pressure off of the new players so they aren't thrown to the wolves. A better record next year, with the small chance of a tournament appearance, only helps the recruiting efforts - which are plainly trending upward. Whoever said up above is right - there's no lottery pick for finishing DFL in the ACC next year.
