Apparently, we have offered Iowa release Ben Brust (along with several others)...

"Among high-majors there's Wisconsin, California, Iowa, Boston College, Colorado, Nebraska, Wake Forest."

He's a good player apparently the more I read. 6'2" shooting guard and a 90 on ESPN. He had 18 offers when his recruitment re-opened up.

How about Geron Johnson? 6'4" combo guard out of Ohio, an ESPN Super 100 and his offer list goes Wright State, Cleveland State and Duquense. Maybe the kid isn't smart so wouldn't be a fit...Calvin Newell out of Philly as a PG would also be interesting.

Just a hunch, but I'm pretty sure the Don has a few guys up his sleeve. He wouldn't have "forced out" Heslip (to quote the great Tom Heslip) unless he had a backup plan.

Ben Brust is the same type of player. Combo guard but not quite the same caliber of shooter.

Herald is reporting that BC is a long shot in trying to land local big man Carson Desrosiers. Someone on TOS is reporting that it's not looking good that Noreen and Ndao stick with their commitments. Gallagher was supposed to fly out to Australia to recruit but he took the job at Hartford. We need some good news on the recruiting front soon. I'm still very excited to see who the staff will bring in for the class of 2011. Stevie D has to name another assistant pretty soon. Any ideas as to who would be a good fit?

Carson Derosiers might still go to wake since the assistant coach who recruitited him is still on the staff. Does anyone think Donahue will try to bring in his freshmen recruit from Cornell Dwight Tarwater? he is the only player Donahue had coming in a 6'6 PF who was receiving interest from the Pac 10 and SEC before giving a commitmentto Donahue. It sucks for this kid because he commits to Cornell then Donahue leaves a week later. Not sure about this kids skills but coaches sometimes try to bring in their own players. he has some Youtube highlights for those interested

Desrosiers is out: http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/high_school/
Possible kid: 6-5 SG Josh Turner. 88 grade on ESPN, 3 star on rivals. ESPN eval:
January, 2010: After a slow opening quarter to this afternoon's game (2010 Hoophall Classic), Turner eventually hit his stride and produced a very efficient 25-point performance. A cerebral and skilled player, Turner attacks with his length and versatility more so than any explosiveness. He makes open shots to the three-point line despite a fairly slow release, has a good scoring touch in the mid-range area, and is capable of getting to the rim with one long dribble from the three-point line. Turner also has great vision and passing ability and may actually be at his best when facilitating for others. While he has good size and quickness for the perimeter, he appears to lack high-major explosiveness and needs to improve his defensive effort in order to compensate.

April, 2009: Turner is a combination guard with great size and athletic ability. He attacks the rim in transition with tremendous pace and if not picked up in time he will finish above the rim over or around the late help defenders. In the half court Turner can finish in the lane with his length as he elevates of smaller perimeter defenders. His mid range jumper is smooth but he didn't attempt many three's because he seemed to get to the rim at will. Turner made the transition to point guard during the game very easily. He is a good ball handler and looked very comfortable with the ball. He breaks pressure and can beat his defender and penetrate and kick to open teammates. Turner looked more comfortable with the ball in his hands than he did playing off the ball. He could also help out at the small forward in a pinch because of his size and ability to rebound. Turner also could easily defend all three perimeter positions. His versatility is what makes him special.

November, 2007: Josh is an extremely talented wing player. He can probably play all 3 perimeter positions. He is blessed with a solid handle and range to 22 feet. His talent for a High School sophomore is tremendous. Josh is also an adroit passer. He is only an average basketball athlete but he makes up for that with skills and good instincts. He has nice length but is an average on the ball defender now. Once he adds more strength that should improve. He is good at playing the passing lanes and gleaning steals from unsuspecting opponents. He could probably use a little more intensity but that may be nit picking. Josh is a top 50 player in the 2010 class nationally."

Was considering Siena and Niagara per ESPN but we got Niagara's coach and Siena went through a coaching change but he sounds pretty good and we need bodies.

Yeah, I didn't really look at any of that stuff, I was just fishing for uncommitted kids that might fit well basketball wise.

There's a 7-footer on that transfer list that shouldn't have much trouble qualifying...Kyle Rowley from Northwestern...

Here's an older write-up from Rivals

http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=781212

"After scouting this prospect several times throughout the season, there was no question that he would get the top spot in rankings for this 2009 class. This prospect is 7'0" Lake Forest Academy center Kyle Rowley. Timid, uncordinated, and average in skill set, Rowley looked to be a project last season at Lake Forest Academy, but due to off-season workouts, dedication, and just getting used to his 7'0", 280lbs body, Rowley has improved dramatically. Kyle's jumper goes out to about 15 feet, has a jump hook with either hand, finishes strong around the rim where he's able to body the defender, and on defense is an outstanding shot blocker with great timing, as well as an accomplished rebounder. Rowley right now is possibly the best bigman prospect since ex-Thornwood star Eddy Curry. And is he satisified with his game right now? "No", states Kyle. "I have power moves, and I need to compliment it with another move, most likely a turn around jumper. That's what I'm working on this offseason." Much improved, and will improve more, we see Rowley as the top prospect for 2009 in Illinois"

+1 on Kyle Rowley, huge ceiling, but we also gotta get some guys that can play this year.
Has anybody heard of Eugene Watkins. PG, 6'2" 190 from DC? 89 grade on ESPN.
July, 2009: Eugene is a true point guard. He controls the game on offense and disrupts the opponents flow when he is on defense. He is a ball hawking defender and his opponent must constantly be concerned about his quick hands deflecting or stealing the ball. Few players are able to influence every aspect of the game like Mr. Watkins. His strong body, leadership, scoring ability and well developed ball handling skills should put him on the radar of the A-10 and CAA colleges. The lack of true point guards across the country could push him to the lower levels of the Big East. His God's Glory Team won and he was the conductor of that orchestra. Eugene has the body, strength and quickness to succeed at the college level and I am sure he will have many coaches visiting this Fall.

Also anybody know the deal on Eric Ferguson? 6-8 SF from Winchendon school. Verbal to Georgia Southern. Sounds like a guy with tons of potential and described as having great work ethic.

Massachusetts already has some national, top quality prospects in 2012. Massachusetts has tons of prep schools with top talent all around, if we can establish ourselves here it's going to pay off down the line.

Ferguson is going to play for his godfather Charlton Young. He's locked in to play for them he"s being loyal to his family. It's a big trend in this years recruiting class. Schools Like Missouri, Detroit, Central Michigan...etc have benefited from having close family ties to certain prospects this year.

Seriously, at this point we need to start looking at A10/Ivy League commits. Not go overboard, but we need at least 2 warm bodies in this class and you have to think most of those kids would qualify academically and jump at the offer.

NERLENS NOEL UPDATE
Posted by Danny Ventura at 12:07 pm
The recruitment of Everett sophomore center/forward Nerlens Noel took a step forward last Friday as Georgetown assistant coach Mike Brennan visited Noel and Everett boys basketball coach John DiBiaso.

“I think the visit went very well,” said DiBiaso. “I think a school like Georgetown would be a great place for Nerlens. (Brennan) spoke about the academics and the school has a very good reputation for graduating its athletes. Even the guys who have left school go back to get their degree.”

The 6-8 Noel is still recovering from a leg injury suffered during the basketball season. With a healthy Noel back along with virtually every key component from a year ago, the Crimson Tide could be a contender in Division 1 North.

"Florida has signed Will Yeguete, a 6-7 junior-college forward who averaged 17 points last season for Florida Air Academy. Yeguete, born and raised in France, chose Florida over Georgia Tech and also had offers from Boston College and Indiana"

According to this article Ben Brust wants to have his plans finalized by May 1...Article mentions Wisconsin, Minnesota, Cal and BC along with Iowa, but by Big 10 rule he needs some kind of waiver to sign with another Big 10 school...

Ben Brust setting up visits
Ben Brust, a 6-foot-2 guard from Mundelein (IL) High, will make an unofficial visit to Wisconsin Thursday and will visit Boston College this weekend, Rising Stars AAU coach Michael Weinstein confirmed to ESPN.com contributor Chris Monter. Brust signed with Iowa in the fall, but asked for a release from his letter of intent when Fran McCaffrey replaced Todd Lickliter.

Ben Brust averaged 24.6 points per game and made 83 three-pointers this season. He scored more than 1,700 points in his career and picked Iowa over Northwestern and Butler and signed with the Hawkeyes in the fall. However, Iowa finished just 10-22 this year and Lickliter was fired after the season.

Minnesota head coach Tubby Smith was expected to visit with Brust this week, but has canceled the trip, due to questions with compliance whether he can sign with another Big Ten school.

Brust is an academic All-American who will play in the second Annual High School Academic All-American Classic, that will be held May 1 at the Felix Events Center on the campus of Azusa Pacific University.

-ESPN
The fact that he's an academic all american might help us. Also the fact that he's cancelled his trip to Minny.

I had read it is a Big Ten Rule. He has to apply for a waiver before signing with another school in the conference.

Brust would be a good get. He seems fairly athletic and seem to have a developed offensive game.

Posted this on another thread but thought it would fit here to. Here's a news story I saw on ESPN. Looks like Steve D. is still recruiting Noreen:

Kevin Noreen, a 6-foot-10 forward from Minnesota Transitions who received a release from his letter of intent with Boston College Tuesday, attracted a big crowd at a workout at his high school Wednesday, reports ESPN.com contributor Chris Monter.

Noreen, who was named Minnesota's Mr. Basketball and was the Gatorade Player of the Year, had Providence head coach Keno Davis and assistant coach Chris Davis, Indiana head coach Tom Crean, Boston College head coach Steve Donahue and assistants from Lehigh, California, Texas and Washington State in attendance.

Minnesota head coach Tubby Smith, Iowa State head coach Greg McDermott and assistant coaches from Northwestern and Oklahoma were in town Tuesday.

Noreen will visit Marquette this weekend and could make other visits before making his decision.

Noreen signed with the Eagles in the early signing period. However, Boston College head coach Al Skinner was fired after the season.

Noreen led the Wolves to a Class A state title with a 61-52 over Sebakia as he finished with 24 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and nine blocked shots, despite suffering what was later revealed to be a ruptured spleen. He averaged 36.5 points, 14.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 3.6 steals and 2.9 blocked shots per game and became the state?s all-time leading scorer.

Some decent names included in there. But I don't think most of them can give him the immediate playing time, we could. It will be interesting to see what happens. I hope he re-signs.
