Poor? Making the tourney is fair to good.

I agree with this premise. Al has been fair to good. Fair to good does not get you fired. That is my only complaint with the Fire Al hoops weirdos.

I'd like BC to get a great coach. A) it ain't happening and B) that doesn't give you an excuse to fire the good coach. BC would get raked over the coals for a lot of reasons if they fired Al, and then we would get stuck watching the Tim O'Shea era.

This is your probelm. Fair to good is not fucking good enough - especially after 14 fucking years, but you seem to think it is. And the "BC is not going to get a great coach" comment sums up your loser attitude.

and you can say "football is not hoops" all you want, but trying to be better than fair to good is not one of the reasons they are different...yet people like you won't settle for that attitude in foootball, yet you are perfectly happy to in hoops. Fucking epitome of the BC hoops fan.

Truth fucking hurts. If you attended games, you'd realize this hoop job is fucking terrible. Believe me, young up comers might take it for a couple of years, and that's fine with me, but stop pretending that this is some desirable destination. Or for that matter that the AD would hire one of those guys.

Fair to good is good enough that you don't fire you coach over it. If they fail miserably again next year, you can fire him. One bad year leading to firing leads to a nightmare in the media and around the league.

You convince me that GDF will hire a guy like Baron or McCaffery, then you can fire Al if they do worse than the Sweet 16 next year. I would jump on your bandwagon then.

Al presents an even more difficult problem for GDF than Toby. He has performed a bit better than Toby actually delivering some BE reg season and tourney champs, got us to the ACC Tourney finals, sweet sixteens etc. He is likable and let's not ignore his African-American heritage where one false step in getting rid of him and then we are "racist" and villified in the press. It would be a debacle worse than Jags. The problem is, Al only wants to leave if he can coach in the NBA. Now, the only possibility of that would be as an Assistant unless he turns things around big time (ain't gonna happen) at BC. He doesn't want a college job. How does his contract work? Is it liike Toby's where every year we liked him we extended him a another year? If so, then let's send him a message at year end and not extend. He will get the message. Either produce or the sand is running out of the hourglass. In any case, unless he resigns, we are stuck with him until the contract runs out or GDF is fired/retires. We have a team of almost all juniors. There is no reason this team should not be in contention and prepping for an ACC Cship and deep NCAA run this or next year. I am outraged at the state of BC basketball. Other than us, no one gives a shit. Not GDF, not Al, not the players, not the students and certainly not Boston. A couple of years ago, Duke called an emergency conference to figure out how to resurrect their Fball program. The guy they asked to be on that call was Steve Spurrier--the last coach to get Duke to a bowl. He said to hire a great coach-a la Jane's suggestion. So, Duke hired Cutcliffe and the improvement has been significant. With the right coaches, BC can compete for NC's in Fball and Bball. Jane is right. 74 is right. No more excuses.

BC will probably get a good coach when Al leaves. It won't however be a "great coach" because there are not many "great" coaches and they command large salaries or are already locked into top programs. The ones who are not locked in or are the type to jump are not the kinds that BC will hire. Also, Al will most likely not be fired after this season. "Fair to good" does not get you fired from BC. That's where I stand: Al has done a good job (really, just look at the wins) and should not be fired, but I would welcome a new coach and vision for the program. I would guess that Al's replacement would be a rising head coach from a mid-major program. It could be Cohen or Cooley but I'd actually think Gene would go for someone with a different style of play who provides marketability for the program as well as coaching because he sees the business aspect of basketball and how even that is floundering under Al.

Not at all. The BC football job is a great job. The basketball job sucks, because BC basketball fans suck. BC football fans are pretty damn awesome by comparison.

Look, you can be delusional and blame the coach for everything. But there is a reason that Gary Williams coaches at Maryland.

Let's be fair, Maryland is his alma mater and that's where he wanted to end up. He was at tOSU which isn't a bad job.

Want to bet on whether Rakim Sanders plays in the NBA? I wouldn't take that bet if I were you, since BC will clearly be hiring John Wooden after they fire Al at the end of the season.

Well OJ, you clearly know nothing about basketball as you demonstrate with every post. Illinois getting talent from Chicago? Try again. Historical "underachiever" do you understand what that means? That doesn't meant Al Skinner only, that means all of the other coaches who have preceded him. Does that tell you ANYTHING?

one of us called sanders a can't miss nba prospect and said this team would win the acc championship this year. wasn't me. i think we know who is imagining things and who actually knows anything about basketball.

Want to bet on whether Rakim Sanders plays in the NBA? I wouldn't take that bet if I were you, since BC will clearly be hiring John Wooden after they fire Al at the end of the season.

yup, I'll take that bet. Not much demand for a 6'5" player that can't dribble and doesn't give a shit. Not to mention a player that can't score 12 points in ACC games on a team with no other scorers. Not to mention a guy that may barely hang on for a year or two in the nba (maybe) is not even close to the definition of a "can't miss nba player".

ipWhat about that ACC championship predicition? We should hire "fair to good" coaches for all of our sports...afterall, we are only BC, according to you.

Tired refrain. Rinse and repeat.

I'd be willing to bet a lot on Sanders not ever getting on the floor in the NBA. For that matter, I'd be willing to bet a lot on no player on this team ever getting on the floor in the NBA. It's a much saver bet than the Chargers covering the spread.

Consider the bet taken.

J.......E........T........S........JETS! JETS! JETS!

Fucking love Jets fans. Like puppies. Sure they piss on the couch and eat the remote, but they are so damn lovable.

He actually has six chins and two more victories in the playoffs than the Pats do.

This should give you confidence in that picture's authenticity.

This is an excellent summary of my position on Al.

Well OJ, you clearly know nothing about basketball as you demonstrate with every post. Illinois getting talent from Chicago? Try again. Historical "underachiever" do you understand what that means? That doesn't meant Al Skinner only, that means all of the other coaches who have preceded him. Does that tell you ANYTHING?

ummmm, 9 of 13 illinois players are from a suburb of chicago or near champaign. dope.

And, FYI, BC has 2 coaches in the last 25 years...one is no longer coaching ANYWHERE. Is JOB your Al comparison? Do you realize how far BC has come in the last 25 years in terms of overall profile? we can do better than JOB and skinner, but you can stick with underachieving if youd like.

A) He actually has six chins
B) and two more victories in the playoffs than the Pats do.

A) He should use his playoff bonus to get a treadmill.
B) Don't give a shit about the Jets or the Pats. That said, as a sports fan in general, I feel compelled to add that he has two more victories in the playoffs than the Pats do this year. The Jets have done little of consequence since 1969.
