I agree with this premise. Al has been fair to good. Fair to good does not get you fired. That is my only complaint with the Fire Al hoops weirdos.
I'd like BC to get a great coach. A) it ain't happening and B) that doesn't give you an excuse to fire the good coach. BC would get raked over the coals for a lot of reasons if they fired Al, and then we would get stuck watching the Tim O'Shea era.
Al presents an even more difficult problem for GDF than Toby. He has performed a bit better than Toby actually delivering some BE reg season and tourney champs, got us to the ACC Tourney finals, sweet sixteens etc. He is likable and let's not ignore his African-American heritage where one false step in getting rid of him and then we are "racist" and villified in the press. It would be a debacle worse than Jags. The problem is, Al only wants to leave if he can coach in the NBA. Now, the only possibility of that would be as an Assistant unless he turns things around big time (ain't gonna happen) at BC. He doesn't want a college job. How does his contract work? Is it liike Toby's where every year we liked him we extended him a another year? If so, then let's send him a message at year end and not extend. He will get the message. Either produce or the sand is running out of the hourglass. In any case, unless he resigns, we are stuck with him until the contract runs out or GDF is fired/retires. We have a team of almost all juniors. There is no reason this team should not be in contention and prepping for an ACC Cship and deep NCAA run this or next year. I am outraged at the state of BC basketball. Other than us, no one gives a shit. Not GDF, not Al, not the players, not the students and certainly not Boston. A couple of years ago, Duke called an emergency conference to figure out how to resurrect their Fball program. The guy they asked to be on that call was Steve Spurrier--the last coach to get Duke to a bowl. He said to hire a great coach-a la Jane's suggestion. So, Duke hired Cutcliffe and the improvement has been significant. With the right coaches, BC can compete for NC's in Fball and Bball. Jane is right. 74 is right. No more excuses.
