The longer he holds off on his decision, and more he sees what he could be a part of, the better in my mind.

Alex is going to go to Duke. Thinking he'll come here is an absolute pipe dream over a schoo like Duke or Kansas.

While true, it is undeniable he is our best shot at a clearly elite, 5 star, big time offer type guy in the near future.

With Skinner, we had no chance since he was MIA.

Stevie D is in the mix on a 5 star and soon, hopefully he will be in the mix for a bushel of 4/5 stars and that is how it works.

If the kid goes to Duke then so be it.

Remember with their frshman point guard now injured and the way he was playing....Duke was in the Final 8 for sure..

If this was Hockey, I would laugh since we have Jerry York....but Mike K., and a few Football Head Coaches....there is no decision but which great school?

I strongly disagree. While it does seem like he is a Duke lean, I definitely think BC is right in the mix. BC has a lot to offer Murphy that most other schools don't (early PT, Donahue and exciting offense that fits his style of play, location, father's alma mater).

Eric should get himself over here. He'd step right into Trap's role in a year and would be more in the flow of the offense while grabbing more boards. Alex and Eric on the same team in a run and gun shooting offense would be amazing, and on a good day might give Duke a run for the money. Probably not but BC hasn't had skilled players like them and still always play Duke well. Even last year, they only lost by 3 at home

Alex is going to Duke - he belongs at Duke - he is a Dookie kind of guy. Besides, he is deathly afraid of Ol' 74 - and he should be!

Saw this quote from an old Globe article I came across about the problems with the basketball team in the 80's: "Jay Murphy, who joined the team in 1980, flunked out of the Colleges of Arts and Sciences twice and was readmitted to the school's Evening College in 1983-84, his senior year. Murphy's unusual academic arrangement was revealed by teammate Martin Clark in March 1984 after he quit the team in frustration over BC's lack of academic standards." Jay may never have graduated and it would not be surprising that he has little to no affinity/respect for his former school that he might pass on to his kids. That was an ugly time. Martin Clark was a very capable player from England and his departure was strange and painful. Time flies.

It was strange at the time, although he essentially quit with one game left in the season...If I recall he also had some kind of falling out with Gary Williams. If it was completely out of frustration over academic standards, it seems a little odd it took 4 years for him to speak up.

Definitely was a curious time in retrospect, as Murphy wasn't the only one with academic irregularities. There was also the whole Burnett Adams issue which is I believe was chronicled in the article you reference. This PR anouncement on his induction to the BC Hall of Fame at least implies Murphy graduated...
