Good for him!

Also of note... Mike Sullivan (who has been mentioned in the past) gets a shot at calling plays as Bucs OC.

Does anyone have an opinion on how the Saint situation relates to PCJ? I'm a little surprised that he wasn't automatically promoted to Interim HC. I don't know if that means that (a) he isn't ready for the job (since he only called the offense for like 4 weeks and Kromer is in charge of the run game) or (b) Payton is concerned that PCJ may do such a good job that they'll remove the "Interim" from his title.

I'm bumping this thread back up... I haven't had a chance to revise the main list based upon recent movements (like BOB to PSU and coaches in new places). Nonetheless, my favorites to replace the Spazerelli are as follows:

College Head Coach: Troy Calhoun, Mario Cristobal, Dave Doeren, Ron English, Skip Holtz, Mark Hudspeth, Butch Jones, Paul Rhoads, Charlie Strong, Bronco Mendenhall
College Asistant: Bob Diaco, Kirby Smart, Mark Stoops, Brent Venables
NFL Assistant: Pete Carmichael, Jr., Rob Chudzinski, Greg Roman, Mike Sullivan, Josh McDaniels

Off of your list, I would like to see Greg Roman as the primary candidate.

Obviously, a lot depends on how these guys do this year... and what happens to the lives and careers of GDF and Spaz.

That said... as of right now... here is the order in which I like the aforementioned coaches:
1. Troy Calhoun
2. Mark Hudspeth
3. Bronco Mendenhall
4. Charlie Strong
5. Paul Rhoads
6. Mario Cristobal
7. Ron English
8. Pete Carmichael Jr.
9. Dave Doeren
10. Greg Roman
11. Butch Jones
12. Rob Chudzinski
13. Bob Diaco
14. Brent Venables
15. Skip Holtz
16. Kirby Smart
17. Mike Sullivan
18. Josh McDaniels
19. Mark Stoops

Mark Hudspeth or Mario Cristobal would be a really good choices. I don't want Strong or Rhoads. Addazio would be good for his local ties and good recruiting.

Agreed. If Kevin Rogers was the best we could do at OC, I can only imagine what crap of a head coach we would hire. We would probably bring in Bill Stewart.

BC gets a mention in Bruce Feldman's mailbag and a name I hadn't heard yet (maybe I missed it)

The last assistant I'll throw out there is in the NFL right now, Greg Roman, the former Stanford staffer. He came close to getting the Vandy job before James Franklin was hired. Roman is very well respected. He's Jim Harbaugh's OC in San Francisco. The New Jersey native might get a long look at a few college places later this year, especially at BC, where Frank Spaziani is in deep trouble.

Greg Roman's name is all over this thread. BCWOFW,in particular, has been promoting him (he seems to like both him and fellow Jersey native Bob Diaco).

It's nice someone national notices.

It's sad how irrelevant this program is going to be this year.

I think I was the only one who was welcoming the consideration of Raheem Morris (as a young guy, with Jersey roots, who could relate to kids and be a good recruiter). Well... this video and article (where he is wholeheartedly endorsed by Kellen Winslow, Jr.) makes the suggestion look foolish (though it makes Schiano seem like the superstar coach I've always alleged).

Raheem Morris would be an incredible recruiter and an in-game coach that's worse than Spaz. As a Bucs fan, I've seen all I need to see of him. No thanks.

Bumped this thread for BOB obviously but this was on ESPN.com today.....I'm surprised Diaz hasn't gotten much mention on this thread, he seems like he'd be a great candidate. Yost is an intriguing possibility too (who I'd never heard of, don't think I've watched a single Mizzou game since they were good about 5 years ago), although his resume is still a bit thin and the merrymen would never go for this guy:

According to a report in the Miami Herald, the Florida International Golden Panthers have signed coach Mario Cristobal to a one-year extension, meaning the coach is now under contract through 2017. But will he really see the end of that contract? Earlier this year -- when he was under contract with FIU through 2016 -- Cristobal was in serious discussions with Rutgers about their coaching vacancy, though obviously he eventually turned them down. At the time, Greg Cote of the Miami Herald wrote that "you can never trust a coach."

"Never trust a coach who says this is his dream job, like Urban Meyer did at Florida, because his is an occupation of steppingstones, of bigger dreams always out there.

"Never trust a coach who says he is 'not going anywhere,' like Nick Saban did with the Dolphins before becoming Alabama's coach, because one phone call, one enticing offer, can change all that fast.

"We want to believe Mario Cristobal is different, the exception, but that blind faith on our part felt a lot like naiveté early Monday. And still does to a degree even as he stays (for now).

"I'm not picking on Mario here. It's in the coaching blood."

If BC was going to hire BOB, they would've done so when he let them know that he was ready to turn down PSU if BC came through with an offer. But, with an AD who is on record as claiming that Spazoo is the best head coach the school has ever had, there was no reciprocal interest. That said, it isn't beyond that same AD to go back and hire prospects he previously dismissed.

Darren Revell -ESPN claiming that Bob O'Brien does NOT have an out clause at PSU. If true, that makes Bob an intellectually challenged individual. There was a reason why 20 potential head coaches turned down PSU last Fall, and if BOB did not demand and receive a fully guaranteed contract and/or a "buyout" clause based on coming NCAA sanctions-then BC does not want this guy.
