It would be the second time Napoleon's name is connected to the UT search. I am sure eaglenyc thinks Geno is magnificent too so he should stay around to continue his reign of mediocrity.

If he interviews, Leahy-hoo should fire his ass. We definitely don't want anyone with aspirations affiliated with the program.

I have absolutely no idea why UT would want GDF. Having said that, I'd be pumped if we could get rid of him.

I talked to him at the ACCT during the halftime curb-stomping we received from Clemson and he was a nice guy but the entire Athletic Department needs a new direction.

UT might want GDF, I guess. If nothing else, he'll run a clean program. I'm not sure why GDF would want that job, though. He probably wouldn't get to coach the football team there.

My god- this is from the Tennessee scout board:

"I think Defilippo would be our guy."

"The guy at Boston College would be a homerun hire!"

"Gene would be the most logical"

START UP THE BRINGGENED2TENNESSEE BLOG VINNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I would be ecstatic if this happened.

More gems:

"There is no way BC should be as good as it is."

"Didn't he once fire a football coach for interviewing with someone else?"

"He fired Tom O'Brien after he interviewed for an NFL job. I think it was the New York Jets." (not making this up)

"He would be someone to look at hard. Great Tennessee man and a good AD."

"bring him on"

Does this actually kind of concern anyone else? I'm not a Flip fan 99.9% because of the Jagodopski/jaggoff/jiggsie fiasco. However, we know Fr. Leahy isn't a big sports guy. Would we get another "national search?" Would polo hat's dad(I don't actually know what his current position is) be named AD, or some other current Yawkey staffer? That would be very bad in my opinion.

Crane is able.

I am not afraid of Gene leaving. Gallup would not get the job and I doubt they would promote from within. I actually think it would be a good thing that Leahy would run the search since he would start clean and not necessarily pick a crony.

1. I think it is a long shot that Gene will leave.
2. I am not afraid of finding a replacement that is his equal or better.

The biggest concerns for the next five years are hiring a new FB coach, securing a better practice facility for football and getting the baseball stadium built. I don't think Gene cares about the practice facility or the baseball field so any AD would be an improvement. I think Gene cares a lot about the next football coach. However, I don't think finding a new football coach will be hard. With each search we've had plenty of reasonable candidates.

The bigger long term issues are the next round of conference shuffling, paying players and ensuring hockey stability beyond York. But I don't think any of those will be issues for the next five years.

Can you imagine Coach Flip doing his Jerry Jones impersonation on the sidelines at Neyland Stadium? 100K+ watching him call out his coach before he can even get to the tunnel?

From what I understand, the baseball stadium is on hold. Some sort of delay with the Master Plan... something like that. Basically, was told that the loss of Shea tailgating wasn't anywhere near imminent. I don't think GDF will leave for Tenn and I don't think he will be here long enough to see the stadium completed.

I have concerns about the head coach thing. A new AD means at least one more year of Spaz... if not 2. I think GDF would have a quicker trigger finger. However, a new AD would land us a qualified head coach... whereas Gene would land us another Coach Flip puppet.

But, I agree with ATL in that the most important thing from the perspective of an AD is to find someone who will help position BC politically should there be yet another conference merry-go-round. As a result, I would put a premium on someone who is a rising star within the Big Ten or grabbing someone from the cabal's old boys network.

I would trade two more years of Spaz for the chance that someone other than Gene makes the next hire. As much as I would love to see a sudden Spaz "retirement" I don't trust Gene at this point to pick the right guy.

Hansen's story is familiar. I haven't heard anything specific from the ticket office. I know that all the blame is being pointed at the schedule, the economy, and HD TV. No one blames the product on the field, the face of the program or the game day experience.
