In order to be successfully married, you have to treat it like a low intensity conflict. If you are willing to suffer casualties (sometimes massive) upfront, you can wear them down to the point they completely leave you alone. At forty-plus years of marriage, my old man doesn't do a damn thing my Mom asks him to do--in fact, he does exactly the opposite most of the time--and she pretty much ignores it.
