OT: The Cleveland Browns might go 0-16

Postby branchinator on Mon Sep 28, 2009 11:39 am

I saw some of the Browns/Ravens game yesterday and I just couldn't believe how bad that team is. I mean, Brady Quinn is dogshit like we all knew. But, somehow, Derek Anderson managed to be worse. I bet during the game, Browns fans were saying, "how could Anderson be any worse?" This team has 2 awful QBs, an awful head coach, absolutely NO running game to speak of, and a terrible defense. All the ingredients are there for a repeat of the Lions' season last year. I think they play Oakland this year, which will be a game that probably features around 12 turnovers and 6 total points.

As a Buccaneers fan, don't discount our ability to go 0-16. We didn't get a First Down until the third Quarter (reminds me of another football team I root for) and had under 100 yards of total offense (again reminds me of a certain team).

O but good news, we just switched our starting QB to Josh Johnson.

Thank God Mangini is 74's problem now.

My dad is a Browns fan. Thankfully the success of the UConn football program keeps him going, otherwise he'd be pretty down in the dumps this time of year.

No offense, I don't know you and I don't want anything bad to happen to him, but...he has a will prepared, right?

Everyone on this thread who does not delete their posts and insults Manga Boy will be eliminated.

The Browns had their chance to deal from strength and now their only hope is to trade one of the two QB's to the Redskins before the deadline for a high 1 pick or a 2 and a 3.

I was not a big fan of Mark Sanchez, but I believe I posted many times to grab some high 2009 picks for Anderson since Manga Boy was set on Brady Quinntineete.

Wasn't a big fan of the Sanchez pick either, can't argue with his winning though. Over two playoff teams from last year and a popular sleeper pick on the road.

The Browns could have had Adrian Peterson in 2007. Then again, the Cleveland jinx ruined William Green's career and probably would have done the same to Peterson.

I don't think anyone would have traded a high pick for Derek Anderson, so I wouldn't worry about that 74.

Savage had multiple first round offers for both Anerson and Quinn and turned them down and numerous or too many to count 2nd and more packages.

Blaming either Anderson or Quinn for the Browns problems is like blaming the guy manning the sump pumps on the Titanic. The Brown's receivers are absolute dogshit. Edwards is the only one of them who ever gets any separation and he cannot catch. When they traded "The Soldier", they traded the one weapon they had. And as bad as the receivers are, the running backs are even worse--Jamal Lewis is their feature back, which would have been great if it was 2002 and Jamal wasn't 5 years past his prime and operating on the back end of a jail sentence. Ray Ventrone is one of their receivers. Ray Ventrone. And they have the less talented Massaquoi brother.

Quinn and Anderson both looked awful, but you could have dug up Johnny Unitas, re-animated him and put him in his prime, and he would look like dog shit as well.

BTW, has there been one ex-Bellichick assistant who it has turned out well for? As I rack my brain, it seems that Charlie Weis is probably the most successful of the lot, and that my friends is all you really need to know.

Wait a minute, didn't Ray Ventrone play safety for the Pats? I didn't realize the Browns were this awful.

McDaniels is 3-0 with Kyle Orton as his QB, so that's a triumph of sorts.

Not blaming Anderson or Quinn for the Browns' failures. Obviously, it goes much deeper than that. The Browns are notorious for awful drafting but even their "hits" like Joe Thomas have gotten worse. It's obviously a huge systemic failure with that franchise.

I am talking about the Bellichick in his "genius mode" not the insecure guy who was mediocre in Cleveland, so Saban doesn't count.

I think next year:

Cowher
Gruden

I think Cowher enjoys his daughters and his NBC cushy life and is waiting for FATWABOY 2 Wade Phillips to crash in December.

Dallas is a $12M operation for 4 years maybe $50M deal.

Gruden is younger and wants to Coach again. I can see him there.

You draft the worng Qb high and you are fucked for 3+ years.

Brady Quinn, Jamarcus Russell, Alex Smith in SF, Ryan Leaf, Michael Vick, etc.

Michael Vick doesn't belong in that list of failures. He was a good QB before his jail sentence.
