New DE next year?

Postby ZBC2001 on Thu Sep 24, 2009 9:17 pm

I'm sorry, but wtf??? Has this been mentioned and I missed it...if so, cue the Man Lands on Moon comments.

If not, :toby :toby :toby :toby :toby :toby :toby :toby :toby :toby

Ifeanyi Momah, who is redshirting this year, was seeing some time on the scout team as a defensive end. Spaziani said the move is not set in stone, but he wants to take a look at the lanky Momah on defense in the spring. With Rich Gunnell, Justin Jarvis and Clarence Megwa all graduating this year, the numbers at receiver might be too thin to move Momah, though.

It's an odd choice that they shut him down for the year but he's healthy enough to play on the scout team....

Beyond that, I can understand why Spaz and Tranq want nothing to do with a 6'6" ginormous target to throw fade routes to in the end zone. They don't seem to plan to visit that area that often.

Actually, redshirting an experienced player can have a positive impact on the team. For example, Quinton Porter came back twice the player as before his redshirt. You just have to be patient and it'll all work itself out.

...as in he threw twice as many interceptions? Or he lost his starting job twice as fast?

I don't mind the redshirt move but I hate the move to DE. Momah has real potential at WR, we have no depth at WR, and the defense should be stacked next year. WTF is going on?

I agree about redshirting not being that big a deal. He's got time on the clock and if he's not 100% 1/4 of the way through the season, why not? It helps with depth. I just thought it was weird that they would use him on the scout team if he's still hurt.

Well, he does have the sexy African name. Wonder if his grandfather was prime minister of a country there.

This may mean they like Coleman's upside. With Phillips on board as well, we won't be lacking for tall wide receivers.

This is moronic. The redshirt is probably one of the few smart moves that Spaz has made this year, but switching Momah to DE is just retarded. If there is one thing this group of WR's need, its size. Jagz clearly started to bring in some more size at WR, and if you look around the ACC, you can see how schools like Clemson and FSU utilize bigger WR's and the impact they can have.

This whole situation is just getting worse every day, jesus christ. FIRE GRANDPA TRANQ :elephant

Yep... Momah doesn't fit Tranq's "schemes". Tranq wants short WRs, enormous RBs, morbidly obese Olinemen and tall cement-footed QBs.
The funny thing here is that the running theme is that Day is OC-in-waiting. I don't know if it is true or not, but if it is... Spaz brought Tranq in to teach Day what SPAZ believes is the proper offense for his team. So... Tranq's vision of the offense is EXACTLY on the same page of Spaz's. So... don't get all into the "Toby would be great if he fired Bible" crap with Spaz. The offense that Toby wanted to run is EXACTLY the one that Bible ran. The offense that Tranq is running is EXACTLY the one that Spaz wants.

From an EXTREMELY reliable source, this was Momah's idea, not the staff's and the staff is letting him try it to make him happy. This has been brewing since early spring and there is a lot of stuff behind it and people in his ear.

Huh. Interesting. Did he play DE in high school too?

They have a point though right? They're more likely to have a DE get a pick-6 than they are to have a QB actually pass to a WR. No point in having a receiver at all really.

DuchesneEast {l Wrote}:TE.

Are you saying it is TE and not DE and that Conroy messed up the whole story? Because I would buy him moving to TE.

No I am saying he played TE in high school and they are trying him at DE now. He thinks athletes play defense and he is a great athlete that can put on enough muscle easily to play DE and that he may face less competition there.

Well I hope it works out for him. I always thought that he could be a great WR.

I agree, I saw him like Plaxico, doing fades in the corner and out jumping people. I think he thought the same and thought he was being used in that way enough. I also know he didnt trust the QB situation.

I never saw any evidence that Momah had a problem catching. Was this something you heard from practice?

the redshirt is fine as why waste a year of elegibility where he plays 5 or 6 games. Thats said he should play wherever he is best.
