Men's Soccer Captures 1-0 Win At No. 14 Boston University

BOSTON - Sophomore midfielder Edvin Worley snapped a scoreless tie in the 57th minute with a right-footed blast off a feed from freshman Charlie Rugg for the game's lone goal as Boston College captured a 1-0 non-conference victory over 14th-ranked Boston University before 1,907 fans at Nickerson Field.

Freshman goalkeeper Justin Luthy recorded two saves, including a save on Michael Bustamante's direct kick in the 89th minute, to earn his third victory of the season.

The visiting Eagles (3-3-0) recorded 10 shots in the match, including four shots on goal.

BC enjoyed several prime scoring opportunities in the game, including three in the game's first 45 minutes of play.

Worley's initial scoring opportunity emerged in the 12th minute. The Jenson Beach, Fla., resident hit on a hard, right-footed shot from the right side of the 18-yard box that sailed just wide to the left.

Nine minutes later, Charlie Rugg's headed off a service ball flew just over the cross bar.

Freshman Kyle Bekker also nearly put the visiting Eagles ahead in the first half, but his right-footed one-timer from 16 yards was saved by BU goalkeeper Hrafn Davidsson (three saves) in the 31st minute.

Following the Eagles' go-ahead score, freshman Kevin Mejia had a chance of his own in the 65th minute. His shot was also saved by Davidsson.

Boston University (3-2-1) attempted 13 shots, of which two were saved by Luthy.

BU goalkeeper Hrafn Davidsson made three saves in the losing effort.

Game Notes: The game was televised nationally as Fox Soccer Channel's College game of the week ... Worley's goal marked his first of the season and the sixth of his 27-game collegiate career ... Rugg, who scored twice in the team's 3-0 win over Fairfield on Tuesday, has five points - two goals and one assist - in the last two games ... Freshman midfielder Colin Murphy registered a game-high four shots, including three in the first half ... BC defeated BU for the third time in as many seasons and for the ninth time in the last 10 meetings.
