EagleOutsider Wiki

So in an attempt to organize more CONTENT on this site, we are going to try something until we get the content management software installed and setup.

http://www.eagleoutsider.com/wiki/

I have installed numerous templates for people to utilize while creating pages. It is still a bit of a work in progress (e.g. the star thumbnails for the recruits is not rendering properly), but the system should easily retain the data.

Since I really had no idea what I was doing in the early setup of this, thus I haven't gone through and locked all the templates. So please if you don't know what you are doing, skip editing the templates and voice your concerns in this thread or in the feedback forum.

I have reached out to a few people to assist in "moderating" this wiki site to ensure the actual BC content doesn't get out of hand. I foresee half the wiki relating to the EO dictionary/inside jokes and the other half capturing the vast knowledge from the members of this BC sports community. Go wild on the EO half (Cabal theories, usernames, etc), but please use some sort of discretion on the actual BC sports pages. Obviously you can edit any unlocked entry and all the changes are logged (with IP addressses) so we can rollback. In the end, you are just destroying the content everyone so desperately wants and just creating more work for the admins.

:shock

Very nice. Not to be a dick and say recruits read the boards, but this could actually be read by others other then this board's fanbase, a vast BC database would definitely rocket to the top of the google lists for BC searches.

Query: Is it ok to just cut and paste full article from Wiki that are already well done?

I like that if you hit random you get Chase Rettig or:

Boston College is the greatest university in the Universe.

Boston College is a College and not a University because it does not have a Engineering school.

Shock's been working on this for a while. It started with him mentioning a bunch of stuff to TRE, AC and myself that we didn't understand because we only know how to use the internet to go to BC message boards and look at porn, but as he's progressed the vision and layout has gotten much clearer.

In short, it's pretty friggin' awesome that he built this and I think it's a great differentiator for EO compared to EI and EA. I assume (but I have no idea what shock has under his sleeves, really) that we'll never hire guys to track down staff members and 16 year olds, and will instead be a gathering point for insiders, guys who are running their own independent sites like supafan12, and people who want to put their own take on BC sports. And only we've got it.

Scout is going to buy Shock out and then he will get a big head and start banning people.

Who will write 74's wiki page?

I am not sure the etiquette on copying and pasting full articles on a wiki page. I would have venture to say it should be summarized and then footnoted?

Also if you are ever on a wiki site and you see a feature that you think would be useful. Post it in the feedback forum. We can grab the template.

Also check out some of the templates I have setup:
http://www.eagleoutsider.com/wiki/index ... university

You can find them by searching for "template:"

This is a very interesting idea and obviously took (and will continue to take) a lot of time and work.

Shock, I don't know how we roped you into our madness, but you are the man. Without you, we would still be on that craptacular site that TRE and I "designed". Now you're taking this place to new levels. :kudos

Message to everyone: Let's keep the slapfights and stupid stuff here. Keep it off of shocker's vision.

As an attorney, I don't understand any of the tech mumbo jumbo. That said, I really like the idea. Is there gonna be a user friendly way to see the see the articles created? For instance, will the front page of the EO soon be snippets and links to the latest wiki articles?

I don't want to brag, but I may have really accomplished something if I turned your frown upside down.

It is the pussification of America (which is not dissimilar to the nerdification of BC) that equates "demanding prick who wants excellence" to "miserable SOB who hates life." There... I said it.

If it is the proper medium I would have no problem writing up little hockey recaps that go beyond the AP reports.

Suggestion: shouldn't there be a link to the new Wiki page on the board index at least? I'd suggest on each forum page also. I went looking for the new mystery rollout this morning and didn't see it until I caught this thread.

Yes, that would be fantastic. You can use the template for game information if you want too.

See: http://www.eagleoutsider.com/wiki/index.php?title=2009_Boston_College_vs_USC for an example (in theory).

I will also omit the Fort Worth Bachelor Pad and eleven Handicapper of the Year awards in case the Redhead finds it.

I copied over a template for hockey games:
http://www.eagleoutsider.com/wiki/index ... ockey_game
Do not worry about the table tags (/td or /th), I will fix them tonight when I have access to the extension directory.

This is a good game to model it after:

Rosters are likely unecessary

:shock I'm trying to get a player box (like the one you see for athletes on wikipedia) for my Herzlich page but can't seem to get it. I think I may have cut off part of the code, but I can't figure out where if I did it. Any ideas?

Edit: I think I've figured out why- No template for it? If so, can you tell me how to add one and I'll do so.

Second edit: I've got the athlete template (found it on Matt Ryan)

Here it is: http://www.eagleoutsider.com/wiki/index.php?title=Mark_Herzlich

Two problems:

1. How do I get rid of </small> at the beginning of the article?
2. I still can't get an image in.

Third edit: Got the image in, still can't figure out how to get rid of problem 1.

Fourth edit: Just to clarify- are we or are we not allowed to take pages from Wikipedia? It seems whoever did the BC page took the column on the right from wiki and put it on ours.
