It's really all crap... just like when baseball fans get all excited about a stud prospect (see, Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy, Clay Bucholz). It is just the promise of tomorrow.

That said, our two best current receivers were both highly touted kids coming from Jersey and picking BC over a slew of offers. If Shakim Phillips pans-out anything close to the way Gunnell and Larmond have, I'd be happy. Ultimately, I trust the football played in places like Florida, Cali, Ohio, PA and NJ a hell of a lot more than I do places like Mass and NH. So, when we land a kid from one of the aforementioned areas, I tend to think he has a decent chance of not being a bust.

I'll tell you why I get excited about a commit like this. It creates great momentum for BC on the recruiting trail. This could influence a few other recruits to think a little harder about BC (sharriff floyd). And if we end up with a top 25 class this year, we just build off that for next year!!

Great news. Landing arguably the best recruits out of (so far) Connecticut and NJ in this class (KPL and Phillips) is a positive sign for BC and the Spaz era of recruiting. McG has always been a solid recruiter and it looks like Day is paving his way to really make the offense for his own once Tranquill takes the big dose of nyquill...

campion, I normally agree with you. But this is a kid that is universally considered to be one of the top 5 WRs in the country, a position for which BC has never had a big time recruit like this. Everybody wanted this kid. I've never seen the kid play, except on film, but I have a hunch he has a shot to be really good.

I would normally agree with Campion here -- people get way too caught up in recruiting. But WR is one position where BC has NEVER done well with highly recruited players. Considering the fact that this kid has close to 25-30 D1 offers, it seems like a pretty good snag by the coaching staff.
