I don't have the energy to defend Spaz right now, but aside from a horrible decision to go w/the 15 yard cushion, it's hard to place most of the blame on him when:

1. Shinskie's play alone took away 7 points from the offense and gave 7 to UVA.
2. Blitz or no blitz, we don't have a D1 defensive end.
3. The offense tried to mix it up by going to the pass in the 2nd half after a run oriented first half, but Shinskie was erratic. When he wasn't there were several costly drops.

The biggest blame is the lack of effort from the players. Spaz should get most of the blame there.

Aside from the cushion and getting no pressure on the QB, the D didn't play that badly. They didn't allow an offensive TD.

I agree dixie. I thought maybe it was the heat and humidity until I remembered it was November. No more ESPN 360 and no more bye weeks - Gene should schedule Mt. Ida in an exhibition game if necessary. Still great to have some luck and get the win. They will be much better for NC.

I was at this game, and I have a few observations.

1. The BC portion of the crowd was really pretty large compared to most away teams coming in to Scott Stadium, and pretty loud, too. I was proud of our fans.
2. The defense played ok, but then again, part of that is that Virginia's offense is just putrid and has been all year.
3. Shinskie sucked, the Rettig era couldn't come soon enough, and when Shinskie didn't suck, his receivers let him down.
4. I can name exactly two players that played well today. Montel Harris was making gains out of non-existent holes, and Quigley deserves the game ball. He saved our bacon.
5. Poor Virginia. I mean, to lose to a team playing that badly has to just be terrible.

It's amazing that you can play as badly as we have, and somehow be 7-3 while playing a BCS-conference schedule.

Don't even try to compare Larmond to Gunnell. Gunnell has done it consistently. I'm not trying to say that Larmond isn't talented, but he's at least another year away. Gunnell was a solid receiver as a frosh.
