BC has a 0% chance of landing any of those names, but sure.

Get prepared for some random MAC-action coach

For better or worse… Leahy won’t be making the next hire… which means James is going to have a decent amount of freedom… for better or worse.

Brian Flores might coach here. Unfortunately he's screwed in the NFL for zero reason.

Out of those three, the only one we have a realistic shot to get is Flores.

The candidate mix will probably be different a year from now. I don't see BC eating Hafley's contract yet.

Being a Haf-empty kind of guy, I expect to see him on the sidelines in 2023. BC isn’t paying 2 coaches to suck again next year. Only way this does NOT happen is if Hafley gets another deal someplace and the terms to let him go there result in a VERY reduced buyout (like none).

Since I’ve seen this elsewhere, hiring the Holy Cross HC is not a solution to this problem.

What's worse is that I don't see a good (realistic) option. Sherrone Moore and Matt Weiss have the same profile as Hafley. Jason Candle is the only MAC coach worth considering, but I'm far from sold on him.

Curt Cignetti might be viable because I think other programs will consider him too old.

No way our cheap ass school is paying 2 coaches. He is on the sidelines next year with a new OLine coach who becomes the scapegoat for the entire season.

Even if he was let go, Leahy is still the President, so things will suck and we wont get a big hire which is what the program needs. This program used to be a stepping stone and its becoming a career killer since Gene fired Jagz. This may be a curse until we hire him back.

They fired JC mid-season, but I'd be beyond shocked if they fired him before the end of the season.

Feels like they'd only let him go after the season if you had a home run option lined up (Flores, etc.)

Jim Christian was not fired mid-season. He was fired near the end of the season and did not have a contract for the next year.

Short week and owed upwards of 16 million very difficult to fire him now.

Logically speaking looking at the roster for next year he will most likely get fired next year at some point but now seems unlikely. :ace

So there is no chance this O-line gels and become 5 blocks of granite and we go ground and pound next year and kick ass.

BC fired JC because he was out anyway and wasn't following protocols. BC is not firing Hafley this year. No way they are eating four years of paying him for nothing. Leahy has been very spoiled lately. TOB walked. Tampa paid most of Jags buyout. We paid nothing to Bates. Pennies to Spaz and Daz. Got paid by UCLA and Penn St when they hired our ADs. We paid a bit for Skinner and Donahue but both were cheap in the whole scheme of things.

Did he or did they just not post it? Whenever there has been the slightest bit of truth/nonspin... BCAD goes quiet.

If it were just the losing, poor coaching and poor S&C I'd say there's no way BC fires Hafley before the end of next season. All those things, regardless of truth, from Hafley's standpoint can be blamed on bad assistants and lazy Daz leftovers. That's enough to buy time and to explain away in future job interviews.

But if the stuff about no program discipline, refusing to acknowledge "suspension" of "assaulters", relying on BC admin to punish your players, and rampant abuse (not just usage) of weed is true? Or worse, the tip of the iceberg and there's more those of us punching our keyboards in our Mom's basement don't know about? Then this becomes an image thing. And all of us know if Fr. Leahy's BC cares about anything more than saving money, it's protecting and preserving BC's image. This is the type of stuff that was coming during Henning's second year and that following off-season, and we all know what happened after that. BC's fortunate the media never got to report about a trifecta after the basketball and football scandals.

Then Hafley loses his BC-specific leverage, as he doesn't want to be explaining the "lack of program control" stuff in job interviews. The number BC would be willing to pay increases, and Hafley starts having interest in givebacks in exchange for a quiet departure. Might have to wait until the end of the NFL season for all this to go down if the BCI rumors are true and provable.

As far as replacements, as much as I like him (albeit with a strong DC) it can't be Chesney if things are bad enough that Hafley leaves this year. Flores is probably the best bet. Yes BC particularly hates litigation and I wouldn't expect to see Fr. Leahy singing "We Shall Overcome" anywhere. But Flores was so obviously done dirty that his litigation is explainable. There would also be some nice PR benefit from bringing Flores in, and he would certainly have the gravitas to offload troublemakers and clean the program up. Given Tomlin's kid joining BC it would be interesting to see what information is getting back to Flores.
