True, but the front 7 on D is atrocious and #6 is the only FR that plays.

I’m usually the optimistic one but I’m not so sure anymore. The team was disappointing all around today.

People are looking for other shit to complain about I get it. The D isn't any worse than we thought we just thought they'd score once in a while.

Steele was in the game calling plays on D in the second half.

That’s because Hafley prefers playing crappy upperclassman. The current QB depth chart is sorted by age. That’s a troubling sign of an inflexible glorified gym teacher.

It would be Menard. I’ve heard from reputable sources that Morehead is not yet capable of running the offense.

He’s clearly a good recruiter and leader. I think he’s in miles over his head on the actual coaching part. That or hire better coordinators.

Seriously though, 6 wins looks like a struggle at the moment esp If Trae Barry is out for extended time.

Trae Barry has zero impact as to whether we get 6 wins or not

Grosel sucks, we know it and the team knows it. He has zero velocity on the ball and can only try to lob it to a spot

He’s literally the only guy Grosel can hit between the numbers. I don’t see a QB change being imminent so it would be a definite loss.

Remember how salty you got when I told you 4-8 was far more likely than 7-5 or 6-6. Oh well, at least Cowboy Jack Jr. had himself a good day. I am sure he enjoyed the way his O-line gashed our wunderboy’s defense. God, we suck.

I can admit when I was wrong.

I guess my optimism was overshadowing the reality of the situation in that this team is not very good at all. I think 7-5/6-6 is still definitely possible but barring some major changes this could spiral out of control fast and put 4-8 in definite play. Yesterday was eye opening in that this team is poor in all 3 phases of the game with a lot of very overrated players.

i think this team is pretty good. it's just the most important position is so bad it outweighs it all.

Not sure what's worse, having a lousey QB, or a lousey OC who can ' t recognize the clear limitations of a lousey QB.

We have talent at WR, RB, cornerbacks and maybe the OL if you can overlook all the penalties (not sure i can but...)
How can they do anything with Grosel not able to do much? As claver said...
I literally said ''wow' out loud when our QB completed a 6 yard pass in the 4th quarter drive where we were running so well, like i just saw a 40-yard spiral hit a guy in the numbers or something. Ugh.

The LBs are good, think overall the secondary is pretty good. The DL generates zero pressure.

I also think the OL would be good if there was a snowball's chance in hell the ball goes more than 10 yards downfield

I can’t go that far with the LBs. Arnold is a disaster and plays every play.

Hafley's post game comments lead me to believe we will be seeing someone else at QB sooner than later.

Grosel has been challenged each week to make certain plays and simply cannot which makes this offense very easy to game plan.

Kind of a catch 22 for him. :ace

I think todays press conference will be crucial. What are Hafley‘s thoughts after watching the tape? Does he mention errors by the entire team on offense…. Routes/drops by WRs, blocks/penalties by OL, missed blocks/holes by RBs, Etc. Or does he just speak in general that the team needs to be better? I don’t think he will throw Grosel under the bus but if he doesn’t mention things other haves done wrong it could be damning.

That said, I don’t think there will be a change this week but there could be more reps to a backup to prepare for that.

I’ve been told by someone close to the program that Morehead isn’t ready so it would be Menard. Also, Jurkovec’s cast is off and I heard he worked out before the game. Maybe his injury isn’t season ending? If so, I would just ride Grosel until he returns.

I have a hard time reconciling “Morehead isn’t ready” with the conflicting “Morehead is legit” narratives. If Morehead has legit ability, there has to be some basic offense be can run. He’s been on campus since January. Will a good DC be able to decipher run/pass sure. But, who cares. Right now, every play is defended the same way. Pretty much every program in America has had true frosh on the 2-deep. Why is ours the only one in need of an astrophysicists?

That said, I also leave open the possibility that a Mac-recruited kid like Menard or Rueve could be a gamer in the mold of PaulPete. If so, fuck the staff for not realizing that because losing to UVA.

But he isn't saying that he is going to make a change.

It's not that hard to understand. The thinking goes: Morehead has the physical tools but isn't developed enough to start in the ACC. He didn't play a senior year of high school and has been on campus for less than a year. Every program in America has true frosh on the 2-deep, including BC this year, but it's extremely rare to see a true freshmen starting QB in a P5 conference.

This is a true statement 6 years ago. Not today. The number 3 team in America replaced their projected 1st Round, pre-season Heisman Candidate for a true Frosh. All of Duke's backups to Holmberg are freshmen. JJ McCarthy has played. Tyler Bucher has played. Sam Huard has played. Kyle McCord started. This is off the top of my head. True frosh QBs are everywhere. And, none of them are sitting behind Dennis Grosel.

Look... if Morehead is currently a pick-off machine, fine. Then, he is really nothing more than a long-term project who won't contribute until he is a Redshirt Junior. It also means we will need to mine the transfer portal for a Mr. Glass back up and for someone to bridge the gap until the 2023 season. From the sounds of it, we have Grosel, 2 Billy Fluties and someone who in a few years may hopefully develop into a poor man's Patrick Towles. That doesn't particularly inspire confidence in the staff's handling of the position.
